12.11.2018
SENTA project is focused on following topic:

Promote education in and through sport with special focus on skills development, as well support the implementation of the EU Guidelines on Dual Careers of Athletes

The objectives of the SENTA are to contribute to the recommended policy actions of the EC 2020 strategy and the dual career of elite athletes.

The overall objectives of the SENTA project are to:

  • support the implementation of the EU Guidelines Dual Careers of Athletes through the development of a sports-focused social entrepreneurship program,

  • contribute to innovative approaches to social entrepreneurship through an innovative curriculum and gamification based training modules in line with talented, elite and retired athletes needs and expectations.

The special aims of the SENTA project are;

  • to help athletes in order to develop, fund and implement solutions and ideas to social, cultural or environmental issues and transform them into economic and social values for themselves and society,

  • to develop an innovative course curriculum that addresses the challenges faced by elite and retired athletes on social entrepreneurship in the sport field and

  • to improve the social entrepreneurship skills and competencies of elite and retired athletes with gamification based digital and open training modules in order to support employment of these athletes in sports labour market.

The direct target group of the SENTA is talented, elite and retired athletes in participant countries. The final beneficiaries of the project are people who suffer from various social, cultural and environmental problems, student-athletes, active people in the sports sector who want to become sport entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, sport institutions, start-ups, accelerators and incubation centers, innovation and technology centers/networks, research centers and investors.

The partnership structure of the project was formed by stakeholders coming together from different sectors. The project has two sport universities (UCAM-Spain and UNEFS-Romania), three NGOs (HIF-Norway, BSDA-Bulgaria and LIWS-Canada) operating at different levels of sport, one from partner countries, and one Europe-wide sports education network (ENSE-Austria) one national Olympic Committee (OC BIH) and one social partner (ALIB-Belgium). However, The University of Kiev - Faculty of Sociology / Sociology & Sports is an associated partners of the project.

Project objectives at the level of sport universities will address the development of an innovative course curriculum that addresses the needs of elite athletes. These objectives will form the basis of training programs for sport-focused social entrepreneurship for organizations/institutions that are responsible for higher education of elite athletes. Also, this will help universities to support dual careers of elite athletes.

The project objectives at the level of non-governmental organizations will address the topic of developing proactive solutions and ideas for social issues by elite athletes and producing social value for society through implementing these solutions and ideas. These objectives will contribute to the development of innovative products, services and processes by encouraging elite athletes to use sport as a tool and method in the non-governmental civil society and voluntary sector.

The project objectives at the level of sport education networks will focus on the establishment of partnerships and networks amongst stakeholders in the field of social entrepreneurship training. The dissemination of project outputs through these networks will encourage further synergies and cooperation on social entrepreneurship in related sport stakeholders such as sport entrepreneurs, social stakeholders, sport institutions, start-ups, accelerators and incubation centers, innovation and technology centers/networks, research centers and investors.

The following Intellectual Outputs (IOs) will be developed to achieve the project aims mentioned above:

IO-1: An innovative course curriculum on social entrepreneurship in the field of sport
IO-2: A Gamification based digital and open training modules on social entrepreneurship for talented, elite and retired athletes
IO-3: Pilot Scheme Report

The intellectual output of SENTA project touches on the topic of social entrepreneurship, which enables elite athletes to both be able to employ and produce social value by using their potential. The IOs of SENTA project will seek to equip elite athletes to build their own initiatives/enterprise. SENTA project also will help to support developing innovative products, services and processes in order to solve social, cultural and environmental problems of society by these elite athletes. Thanks to the intellectual output of the SENTA project, elite athletes will get ability to launch their own initiatives/social enterprise, as well as the having competencies required by the sports labour market.

By using gamification-based digital and open educational resources, elite athletes will be able to participate in training activities even as they continue to sporting life. This will work up them into competent individuals in entrepreneurship after their sporting lives.

Many elite athletes want to use their talents, networks and profile to use their careers to set up their own businesses/enterprises during or after their sporting career. However, due to their intensive training and competition programs, they often miss several types of education. In this context, open and digital educational resources and the intellectual output of the SENTA will present a new career path and opportunity to elite athletes and contribute to the smart and inclusive growth goals of the EU 2020 Strategy and reduce unemployment.

Project is co-funded by Erasmus Plus programme of the European Union.
