INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE SPORT&NFE WAS HELD IN SOFIA

On May 12, 2023, in the House of Europe in Sofia, an international conference Sport and Non-formal Education was held, which aimed to present interesting international and national practices, as well as to give pedagogical experts the opportunity to discuss with their colleagues the challenges and opportunities that the non-formal education faces.
The conference, organized by Bulgarian sports development association, was opened by Mihail Balabanov, Executive director of Human resources development centre (Erasmus+ NA), Prof. Krasimir Petkov, PhD, Dean of Sport Faculty, National sports academy “Vassil Levski” and Denitsa Andonova, Chairperson of Mundus Bulgaria.

The event focused on the power of sport as an educational tool and the values and skills that it builds. Erasmus+ programme, which is the most successful program of the European Union, focused on the development of the most valuable resource of the EU – human capacity, was presented in detail. The methodology Education Through Sport was also presented in detail – an innovative practice for the country, which through the power of sport builds valuable qualities and skills, useful for the personal and professional development of the trainees.

Of particular interest was the presentation of Dobroslav Dimitrov – BASSCOM Chairman, who emphasized on the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence provides, motivating the audience to actively use this tool and be part of the change that is rapidly entering our daily lives.

The participants also had the opportunity to be inspired by innovative practices, including: Youth4Social Change (Germany), Virtual tools for understanding of ETS (Poland), Come and Play 4.0 (Bulgaria), BOOST-Boosting Outstanding Omnicompetent Successful Talents (Bulgaria), Sailing for inclusion (Sail4In) (Bulgaria), BasketJoy (Bulgaria).

The event was organized within the Sport and NFE initiative, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, seeks to identify and overcome obstacles and challenges related to sedentary lifestyles and declining interest in sport. The project will serve as tool to improve health and equal access to sports facilities in Europe, by promoting education in and through sport. There will be a special focus on the development of knowledge, skills and capacity of coaches, physical education teachers and other staff of organizations and institutions in the field of sports, education and non-governmental sector, as well as support for the implementation of European Union guidelines for a dual career of athletes.
