BSDA is partner in PLAY'IN TOGETHER project
A first collaboration between the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, PLAY International and UNICEF resulted in the creation of a "Values of Olympism" project, conveying strong educational messages related to the three values of Olympism: respect, friendship, excellence.

The "Values of Olympism" kit was a great success for school teachers and socio-sports animators in cities in 2016-2017, and children who were able to both enjoy and learn from these sports and sports activities. This kit, duplicated to 260 physical copies, has been adapted to the local realities of 4 countries (Burundi, Kosovo, Vanuatu and Haiti) allowing educators and teachers to play with 15,000 children.

This project relies on an innovative teaching method developed by PLAY International: Playdagogy. It aims at using sport games as an educational medium to treat sensitive topics otherwise. It allows children to learn and grow while playing and having fun.

Play International and the European institutions share a common priority: social inclusion and equal opportunities in sport at European level. This priority already was at the heart of the "Values of Olympism" pilot project. Indeed, it was a powerful lever contributing to the personal development of children, promoting a healthy life and teaching them to share, tolerate differences between each other, and work collectively to achieve goals. Today, PLAY International and the Olympic Games Bid Committee Paris 2024 capitalize on this inspiring initiative.

The Erasmus + Sport project, coordinated by Play International teams, goes in this direction by supporting European society towards a greater inclusion of all persons with disabilities thanks to the promotion of Olympic, Paralympic and European values in sport games.

Indeed, diversity, living together and meeting people with or without disabilities must be at the heart of the concerns of any inclusive society.
Our project seeks, on the one hand, to promote a change of mindset on disability (specific objective 1) and, on the other hand, to offer activities adapted to children with disabilities strengthen their self-confidence (SO2). Finally, the project also wants and above all allow all children, without differentiation, to participate together in the same games (SO3). The actors of education will therefore be trained to implement these activities including an audience of children with or without disabilities, and the interactions to be created between them.

Objectives of the PLAY'IN TOGETHER project

Main objective

European society becomes more inclusive of all persons with disabilities thanks to the promotion of Olympic, Paralympic and European values in sporting game

Specific Objective

  • European youth makes a change of mindset on disability through the practice of socio-sports activities

  • Children with disabilities are encouraged, valued and aware of their potential through the practice of socio-sports activities conveying Paralympic, Olympic and European values.

  • Positive interactions and friendship between European citizens are at the heart of their concerns, sports games becoming a strong link bringing together a public in situation or not of handicap

Target audience

  • 4,300 children per intervention country, ie 25,800 children for all 6 countries (5 EU + Kosovo)
  • 21 trainers trained by Play International, by partner country, ie 126 trainers for all 6 countries
  • 190 education professionals trained by these trainers, in schools and out of school, by partner countries, for a total of 1,140 people.

Activities (implemented over 30 months) :

 A platform created and made available throughout the project.

The project proposes the setting up of a digital educational platform adapted and easily accessible. Library of content and tools for monitoring and evaluation of activities, it mainly offers an E-Learning course, completed with a mobile application. It will also enable partners to exchange with each other and build a network of practitioners on an European scale.

 Studies conducted and presented by a university partner specializing in the fields of education, sport and disability.

  • A research-action study is conducted to understand the specific needs of children with disabilities, their motor and psychic development, the causes of bad being and lack of self-esteem of these children. This study will be the basis to establish the orientations of the sport games that will be created, inspired by the Olympic (e.g. excellence) Paralympic and European values

  • A diagnostic is made at the beginning of the third phase of the project to identify relevant themes fostering a climate of cooperation and cohesion between children from 6 to 12 years old whatever their situation. This diagnosis will allow the creation of mixed sports games (including children with or without disabilities) co-created for phase 3.

 3 co-creation meetings corresponding to the three phases of the project

These meetings will consist of the co-creation of Playdagogy sessions bringing the Olympic, Paralympic and European values to life. They will be based on the studies previously prepared by the university partner.
  • Sports games specific to the change of mindset on disability will be adapted to the national realities of the partner countries (during phase 1). These games will be tested before their deployment and adapted to the extrascolar environment.
  • Sports games adapted to children with disabilities will be created by thematic partners (during phase 2). These games will be tested before deployment and adapted to specialized institutions.
  • Mixed sports games (including children with or without disabilities) will be created as part of phase 3. These games will be tested before deployment and adapted to schools and specialized institutions.

 Training of trainers by Play International team

The trainers members of operational partners will be trained to the Playdagogy method in order to be able to easily deploy sports games on the themes created throughout this project.
They will also be trained to follow the sport sessions on the field with children, and monitor the deployment of activities (qualitatively and quantitatively)

 Trainers are trained in each country

During each phase of the project, the trainers of the operational partners, previously trained, will gather within their respective countries the concerned educational professionals (teachers, coaches of sports clubs or professionals of adapted sport). They will be trained to the Playdagogy method and to the deployment of sports games.
Training will also be available online, on an online platform.

 Implementation of socio-sports activities with children and follow-up (face-to-face and online)

The national practitioners concerned by the topics addressed, implement socio-sports activities:
  • With a child audience not having a disability (phase 1)
  • With a child audience with disabilities (phase 2)
  • With a mixed public gathering children in situation or not of disability (phase 3)

These practitioners complete the tools for the follow-up of activities. These follow-ups will be
analyzed by Play International.

 Capitalization and Dissemination Studies

At the end of the project, a capitalization study is conducted. This study determines project and educational engineering and their positive impact.
A dissemination study will also be drafted, that capitalizes on the expertise and know-how gained during the project. This study will serve as a basis for the deployment of the method, by partners especially in charge of this dissemination, to other national institutions and to other countries of the European Union.

 A closing event.

The closing event brings together all the European partners who took part in the project from conception to completion. It also brings together a large number of people trained in this method, from different organizations in 5 European countries and Kosovo. This event will focus on implementation of Playdagogy sessions with children with and without disabilities from schools and sports clubs in the host country. Also, by bringing together all the actors who participated in the project, by giving the floor to some of them at a conference organized specifically, the event will allow the sharing of experiences, the transfer of skills and the dissemination of ideas, and the capitalization of the expertise and know-how gained during the project.

It should be noted that Kosovo, as the 6th partner country - not a member of the EU, will participate in the project by mobilizing the National Olympic and Paralympic Committee in charge of the deployment of activities in schools or clubs.
