INTERNATIONAL LETS SWIM BEYOND THE HANDICAPS MEETING WAS HELD IN ATHENS

In the period June 30 to July 3, 2021, in Athens, Greece the first international meeting of LETS SWIM BEYOND THE HANDICAPS project was held. The aim of the project is to include physical disabled kids in social life, to improve quality of their lives, to give them the opportunity to have fun during physical activity and sports with their peers, to make them discover their skills, and to create a different environment where they can feel free to do exercise. The consortium includes partner organizations from Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey.

DURING THE PARTNER MEETING THE FOLLOWING TOPICS WERE DISCUSSED:
Introduction of the general characteristics of the target groups of the project;
Introduction of the general information regarding the target group of each partner in the project;
Introduction and selection of the sports activities included in the project;
Discussion on the use of appropriate methodology for conducting sports sessions;
Selection of good practices and initiatives related to the upcoming activities included in the project.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:
Social inclusion of kids with disabilities;
To create activities to support the physical development of children with disabilities;
To make both kids with and without disabilities have an active life;
To weld kids with and without disabilities together.

WITHIN THE PROJECT ARE PLANNED:
Transnational project meetings;
Training course for children with physical disabilities aged 12-16 years, in order to participate in swimming training with children without disabilities;
Sports event in Rijeka, Croatia, which will be attended by 1 swimming coach and 1 project team member from each country, as well as 6 children (with/without physical disabilities);
Final meeting in Sakarya, Turkey.

Lets swim beyond the handicaps project is co-funded under the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, as a partner of the initiative from Bulgaria is the Bulgarian sports development association.
