06.01.2021
The project has the aim to develop, implement and transfer innovative practices related to physical activity in a high-risk and usually hard to reach population: women, especially those with family and working loads. The “WOMEN’S HURDLES” project objective is to promote and support EU strategies in the area of social inclusion and equal opportunities, encouraging participation in sport and physical activity (supporting the implementation of EU Physical Activity Guidelines). The collaborative partnership involves various organisations and actors in and outside sport (research and preventive institution, sports association, scientific associations, social association). This project has been inspired by this recommendation about the lifestyle interventions.
The duration of the project is 24 months and the project is involving 7 partner organizations from 6 European countries – Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Lithuania and Romania.

The participating organisations to WOMEN’s HURDLES Project are all involved in sports, prevention and women healthy lifestyles, and in the development of documents and tools utilized in the field.

Furthermore, for the participant organisations the project will aim to:
• Encourage participation in sport and physical activity, especially by supporting the implementation of the Council Recommendation on health-enhancing physical activity and being in line with the EU Physical Activity Guidelines;
• Encourage participation in sport and physical activity;
• Promote education in and through sport;
• Reinforce cooperation with partners from other countries;
• Increase quality in the preparation, implementation, monitoring and follow-up of EU/international sport projects; increased capacities to encourage citizens to participate in sport and health enhancing physical activity;
• Create a more dynamic, committed and professional environment inside the organisation: ready to integrate good practices and new methods into daily activities; open to synergies with organisations active in different fields or in other socio-economic sectors; promoting the socio-educational development of professionals and volunteers in sport, in line with European policy objectives in the sport field.

The project will specifically provide EU added value through the following activities:
• Survey about women’s hurdles at European level in participating countries;
• Creation of a “Manifesto for physical activity in European women” document;
• Organisation of a Train the Trainers EU course for physicians, physical activity professionals and managers coming from Italy, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Romania and Greece on the application of the manifesto and how to inform and communicate to the women about the importance of physical activity.

The specific goals of this project are:
• Kick-off meeting will be held online;
• Second coordination meeting will be held in Athens (GR);
• Third coordination meeting will be held in Rome (IT);
• Final meeting will be held in Vilnius (LT);
• Online coordination meetings to discuss project achievements and developments (throughout the project’s lifetime);
