05.12.2023
The Bulgarian Sports Development Association joined efforts with Special Olympics Bulgaria, the "ProSport" Foundation, and the European Law Society and participated in the annual conference "Sport - a Tool for Social Inclusion." The event, held on December 5, 2023, at the Vitosha Park Hotel in Sofia, aimed to raise crucial issues regarding the role of sports as a means for social integration and improving quality of life. The conference aimed to stimulate discussions among various stakeholders in the sports sector, including public institutions, sports federations, clubs, sports service providers, schools, municipalities, and regulatory bodies.
The event focuses on the challenges and best practices for developing sports as a tool for social inclusion, including promoting volunteerism and ensuring children's rights in the field of sports.
The Bulgarian Sports Development Association presented the initiative SMS – Strong Mind for Success, supported by the Erasmus+ program. The goal of SMS is to empower the sports organizations in ensuring the mental health of young athletes and providing them with necessary knowledge and information.

The "Strong Mind for Success" project offers innovative training centered approach on the importance of mental health for the successful development of young footballers in Bulgaria, Italy, and Slovenia. The initiative utilizes information from the goals and policies of European action plans in the field of mental health, emphasizing the significance of mental health for young football players. The primary target group consists of boys and girls under 18 years old, as this period is crucial for their psychological development.

The necessity for this project is reinforced by the lack of sufficient information regarding the impact of sports on athletes' mental health. The project examines how mental health can be utilized in player preparation and how quality results can be achieved both on the field and professionally. A parallel goal of the initiative is to enhance the skills of managers within sports organizations to handle the psychological aspects of their players. With the aid of mental health experts, the focus is on implementing a more comprehensive approach to football player preparation.

Partnership: Three different EU countries - organizations with extensive experience in sports and project management expertise - the Bulgarian Sports Development Association (coordinator), L'ORMA from Italy, and the sports club Endorfin from Slovenia.
