May 9, 2022 marks the 15th anniversary of Bulgaria's membership in the European Union. Our country joined the European family in 2007, believing in the words of one of the founding fathers of the EU, Jean Monnet, "There is no future for the people of Europe other than in union". On May 9, 2022, from 10.00. until 11.30, in Zaimov Park, a sports holiday and celebration of Europe Day was held, which was attended by children from the 195 "Mormarevi Brothers" kindergarten. The host of the event was Nadezhda Panayotova, the Bulgarian voice of one of the favourite Disney cartoon characters – Elsa.

In the period 01-04 of May 2022, in Sofia, Bulgaria, was held the final meeting of #SPORTolerance initiative which gathered the partners from Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria and Cyprus that worked together in the last two years to achieve tolerance and solidarity through sport. Through the project lifetime, different international and national actions have been implemented in the partner countries, aiming to empower sport experts and organizations to use sport as a powerful tool for positive change in our societies. The Sofia athletics school Darko Athletics team organized its first competition for children aged 4 to 13, which was attended by over 250 kids, representatives of over 10 clubs in Bulgaria.

On April 21, 2022 – the Holy Thursday, from 11.00. until 12.30 the traditional painting of Easter eggs and sports games took place on Sveta Nedelya Square and was attended by over 250 children from the capital's schools. At 12.30 a festive procession started with children carrying icons and baskets of painted eggs, led by clergymen of the Sofia Holy Metropolis. The festive procession took the following route: from Sveta Nedelya Square – Vitosha Blvd. – Alabin St. – Graf Ignatiev Blvd. to the Church of the Holy Septuagint. The children were greeted by the temple priests, who gratefully accepted the Easter eggs and cards with icons for the people in need. A donation of the painted eggs was also made to the medics from the Military Medical Academy, who received baskets of colorful joy and gratitude from the children for their care for all of us. On March 23, 2022, at the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski", Sofia, Bulgaria an event under the #SPORTolerance project was held. During the event, new practical activities were tested, using sports and physical activity as a tool to provoke tolerance and solidarity among the participants. The event was attended by students majoring in Adapted Physical Activity and Sports, including international students studying under the Erasmus+ Learning Mobility program, as well as young people with intellectual disabilities.

#SPORTolerance “Sport for the Promotion of Tolerance” handbook includes non-formal educational activities focused on combating radicalisation through sport and promoting tolerance and solidarity. The publication includes an explanation of the training methodology Education through sport, as well as specific educational activities in a sports environment. The activities are detailed by the participating in #SPORTolerance project sports experts from 4 countries, created on the basis of their own experience and practice, as well as tested in a real environment and adapted to their feasibility and success to realize the pedagogical goals.

In the period 26-29 of November 2021 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina was held a #SPORTolerance training of sport experts and the educational mobility of sport coaches has contributed actively for the personal and professional development of involved sport experts through educational activities and format for exchange of ideas and good practices. This meeting ensured both acquirement of practical skills and knowledge of the involved coaches and an unique experience to cooperate on international level in order to solve common challenge. The event was attended by representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Bulgaria and Cyprus that will create a local sport practice in between the international mobilities that will allow participating sport coaches to test the learning activities and to adapt them to the their reality.

On September 25, 2021, in the “Madara” pool of the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" #Train4Inclusive event in adapted swimming was held, which was attended by athletes with intellectual disabilities. #Train4Inclusive is implemented by an international consortium including representatives of Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia and Spain and aims to develop a methodology and tools that sports coaches and managers of sports activities for people with disabilities will be able to use to monitor the progress of their physical, cognitive and social skills. The swimming event included 50m adapted swimming with a partner, as well as water fun for the participants, who were divided into two age groups - under and over 17 years.

On August 30, 2021, in Primorsko, Bulgaria, a sports event was held in the framework of the #SPORTolerance project. During the event, new practical activities, created during the first educational activity of the project (Cyprus, July 2021) were tested, using sports and physical activity to provoke tolerance and solidarity among the participants: "In the shoes of others", "The ball of tolerance", "The tower of peace" and "The Road to the Olympic games”. The event was attended by over 50 children and 8 coaches - part of VK "Achilles" (Sofia).

On May 22, 2021 at the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski” athletics tournament “New Stars” was held. The 43rd edition of the international tournament included in its program a 100-meter inclusive start, which was attended by 14 athletes with intellectual disabilities.

On 19th of March 2021 an online meeting of the consortium of #SPORTolerance project was held that gathered project partners from Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria and Cyprus. The European Week of Sport #BeActive was held for the sixth consecutive year and between 23 and 30 September 2020 all residents and guests of Sofia had the opportunity to become part of the largest sports event in Europe. European Week of Sport is an initiative of the European Commission, which is held each September throughout Europe since 2015. The week, which takes the form of an awareness raising campaign, promotes the multiple benefits of sports and physical activity and everyone can participate, regardless of age, background or physical condition.

On 19th of August 2020, #BeActive day was held at the Monastery "St. Ivan Rilski” in German, Bulgaria, organized in partnership with the Sunday School at the “Nativity of Christ" Temple, Sofia, Mladost 3, the Association of Bulgarians suffering from asthma (ABBA) and the Bulgarian sports development association. Over 30 children had the opportunity to have fun, study together and enjoy wonderful summer emotions, many sports and educational activities. Hieromonk Pimen, responsible for the monastery expressed his support for this type of activity, which started in the German monastery three years ago and has become a wonderful tradition: "It is inherent in man to develop his physical abilities in childhood so that he can have proper development as an individuals."

SPORTolerance project aims to contribute to further human capacity development in sport through development of set of mobilities for sport coaches that will include both educational modules and modules for exchange of good practices in the field of using sport for prevention of radicalization and building tolerance and solidarity. On August 1, 2020 at the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" was held athletics tournament "New Stars". The 42nd edition of the international tournament included in its program a 100-meter inclusive start, which was attended by 12 athletes with intellectual disabilities. The inclusion of integrated starts in sporting events with proven traditions is extremely important support for people with disabilities and their full integration. The example of the organizers of the New Stars tournament has become a sustainable successful practice in the last few years. The participants were awarded by Prof. Marin Gadev - Head of the Department of Athletics at NSA "Vasil Levski", and after the award they had the opportunity to share a photo with one of their sports idols – the European, World and Olympic champion Tereza Marinova.

#BeActive weekend was held in Klisura Monastery “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” in the period between 11-12 July, organized in partnership by the leadership of the monastery Archimandrite Antim, Sunday School at the Church of the Nativity in Mladost 3, the Association of Bulgarians with Asthma, Allergy and COPD (ABBA) and the Bulgarian Sports Development Association. The event was attended by more than 30 children from the district, who took part in educational sports activities, which aimed to build in them skills for teamwork, tolerance and solidarity.

In the period 18 – 25 of June 2020 during the annual practical summer camp for students in National Sports Academy “Vassil Levski” the students in master degree Adapted physical activity and sport was introduced to the #SPORTolerance project and through interactive and non-formal activities sport experts got deeper knowledge on tolerance and solidarity through sport. More than 30 coaches in different sports was empowered to use non-formal activities and the methodology Education through sport /ETS/ to ensure that the European values are transmitted to the target groups they work with through sport sessions.

Council Conclusions will be prepared on this topic and the Presidency has organized an expert seminar in the period 27/02 – 28/02/2020, where some specific subtopics has been discussed.

Although radicalisation can happen at any age, young people in search of a sense of belonging, a purpose in life, or identity, may be particularly exposed. Young people are also one of the most mobile and dynamic population groups, offering them various opportunities for interaction with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
