06.11.2024
On October 23rd and November 6th, 2024, Bulgarian sports development association organized two local conferences under the "Orienteering with Snorkeling” project, which is aimed at children with special educational needs. The events were attended by coaches, specialists and teachers working with children with disabilities, as well as with their peers without disabilities. The main aim of the initiative is to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to engage in orienteering and diving activities in a shallow marine environment, pools or lakes, alongside their peers.
The events in Sofia were a considerable success, with conference participants being introduced to innovative approaches and practices for developing skills, confidence and social connectivity in children.

The conferences provided a platform for the exchange of experience and knowledge, as well as for the presentation of good practices in inclusive sport. According to the participants, involving children in these activities has a key role in their physical, mental and social development. Sport initiatives of this type are an excellent way to build sustainable links between children with disabilities and their peers, while promoting understanding and acceptance in society.

The positive feedback from coaches and educators highlighted the importance of adapted sports activities for children with special needs and their ability to bring communities together. The Orienteering with Snorkeling initiative not only provides unforgettable experience for the participants, but also supports the development of independence and self-confidence in children, enriching their life experiences.

The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union and is implemented by an international consortium including partners from Bulgaria, Turkey and the Republic of North Macedonia.
