PARTNER MEETING OF HALT HELD IN SOFIA
13.09.2023
On September 11-12, 2023, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Bulgarian sports development association has organized a partner meeting as part of the project "An educational and training program for older adults at risk of developing dementia through table tennis /hAlt/." During this meeting, partners discussed the progress of project activities and planned future initiatives that explore how sports and physical activities can contribute to improving the lives and well-being of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. Table tennis is one of the most brain-engaging physical activities, and what's even better is that even older players can enjoy playing table tennis. This sport has a positive impact on physical activity levels, improves attention and concentration, and enhances visual-spatial skills.
Due to these characteristics and the accessibility of this sport, it has been proven that table tennis can effectively be used as a program for the prevention and rehabilitation of individuals suffering from or predisposed to Alzheimer's disease and dementia, as it simultaneously activates different sections of the brain.

The goal of the project "An educational and training program for older adults at risk of developing dementia through table tennis /hAlt/" within which the research is conducted, is realized in collaboration with various table tennis clubs, sports organizations, sports universities, and other interested parties. The project aims to raise awareness about the benefits of practicing table tennis for the mental health of older adults, engage individuals who are suffering from or predisposed to Alzheimer's disease and dementia in table tennis, offer them specialized training from experienced table tennis coaches certified as "coaches with knowledge and specific skills for Alzheimer's disease and dementia." At the same time, it involves monitoring their bio-physical activity using portable devices and a related gamification application that supports socialization and attracts a larger number of participants/users.

The project "An educational and training program for older adults at risk of developing dementia through table tennis /hAlt/" is co-financed under the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.
