26.02.2025
On February 26, 2025, in Sofia, Bulgarian sports development association (BSDA) organized a focus group as part of the Bet on Sport project. The event brought together coaches, sports educators, psychologists, and representatives from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Ministry of Education and Science (MES).
The Bet on Sport project utilizes sports and physical activity as a means to support recovery and improve the mental and physical well-being of individuals struggling with gambling addiction. The initiative aims to equip at least 200 professionals from the fields of addiction treatment, healthcare, and sports with the skills to develop and implement sports programs as part of addiction therapy. Additionally, it fosters collaboration among experts in these fields to offer a comprehensive approach to addressing the issue.
During the focus group, participants discussed the specific needs of individuals affected by gambling addiction, as well as the most effective types of sports activities for their recovery. The discussion also covered the requirements for healthcare and sports professionals involved in the project, with the goal of developing an integrated cooperation protocol.
As part of the project, an online training course will be developed to enable professionals to work effectively together and conduct pilot activities in all participating countries. To maximize its impact, the project also includes large-scale awareness campaigns to highlight the issue of gambling addiction and promote sports as a viable means of overcoming it.
Co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, the Bet on Sport project will be implemented over a 28-month period. Through collaboration and innovation, it aims to provide sustainable solutions for combating gambling addiction through the power of sports.
