20.03.2018
On the 12th of March 2018, an anti-doping seminar JUST SPORT was launched, which aimed to train and inform fitness instructors and fitness center owners within 5 days about the negative consequences that the uncontrolled use of nutritional supplements in the field of grassroots sports (mostly in fitness centers) could lead to.
The training event was logically planned in order to go through the widest range of information. In the first two days the National Anti-Doping Center experts presented the main policies, the activities implemented by the Center and the prevention and control methods. On the third day of the event, the Bulgarian Association of Fitness and Health gave the participants the point of view of the practice, also presented the results of a project in the area of the use of prohibited substances in fitness centers and interesting campaigns that have been implemented in Europe. On the fourth day of the seminar the participants had the opportunity to examine the regulatory and legislative framework of Bulgaria which concerns the use of doping and food supplements and to give suggestions about the optimization of this document with the help of the experience they have from the practice. The results of this day, and the overall training were presented at the roundtable, which was held on Friday, the 16th of March, 2018, which was attended by Krasen Kralev, Minister of Youth and Sports, Prof. Tatiana Yancheva, Deputy. Rector of the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski", Dr. Violeta Zarkova, executive director of the National Anti-Doping Center, Joanna Dochevska - Chairwoman of the Bulgarian Sports Development Association, representatives of the Regional Governance of Education - Sofia city, Confederation "Health Protection”, representatives of the Academy of the Ministry of Interior, sports organizations and the academic community in sport, people interested in sport and the participants in the five-day training.
“The evidence that more and more young athletes start to use doping in their free time in a very early age is worrying”, warned Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev and pointed out that education isour only weapon against prohibited and dangerous substances. “The problem is valid for whole Europe and all experts admit to that we are not prepared to deal with it. While there are strict international rules in sports for achievements, and there is a built-in tracking system, proof of doping and relevant sanctions by international sports organizations, in grassroots sports these procedures are not applicable. Our only weapon is the education”, said the minister. In his speech he emphasized the fact that anti-doping policy is one of the main priorities of the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU in the Sport sector. The need for prevention through training was the subject of the first event the MMC organized as part of its activities for the presidency - Seminar on the Prevention of Doping on the 24th and 25th of January in Sofia.
Project JUST SPORT is realized in the period 2017-2018 year and it is co-funded by “Erasmus+” Sport Programme of European Commission and held different kind of activities in Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal and Sweden during that period.
