26.06.2018
On 26/06/2018 at 12:00 in Press Club "Bulgaria" in the National Stadium "Vasil Levski" a final press conference on the project "JUST SPORT" was held, which aimed to introduce to the public the activities, carried out during the last 18 months.
The JUST SPORT project aims to address the negative consequences that uncontrollable use of food supplements in the field of mass sports (mostly in fitness centers) may cause. After a round table on this topic, experts and participants said that the use of prohibited substances and stimulants in fitness centers is a topical challenge and immediate attention should be paid to measures to help overcome. Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev said “The data about the younger age at which free-time sportsmen start to use doping is worrying”. He added that “The problem is valid for whole Europe and all experts recognize that we are not prepared to deal with it. While there are strict international rules on sport for excellence, and there is a built-in system to monitor, proof of doping and relevant punishments on the part of international sports organizations, then in sports all these punishments are inapplicable. Our only weapon is training”.
The main subject of this project is to introduce young people who are using sports and fitness centers and beginners athletes and to provide them with the necessary data to make an informed choice and possible negative effects on their physics. The use of some muscle mass builders could lead to severe heart problems, liver disease, and more in the future. Various activities were performed during the project to provoke and stimulate young people to plan a healthy lifestyle, supported by the guidance of trained fitness and sports professionals. Several training modules were realized for the youngsters themselves, who were covered in the project, but also for specialists and coaches involved in fitness and conditioning. The project is about to create a mobile app that will include healthy fitness centers and experts dedicated to the idea of "pure" sport.
On the 12th of March 2018, an anti-doping seminar JUST SPORT was launched, which aimed to train and inform fitness instructors and fitness center owners within 5 days about the negative consequences that the uncontrolled use of nutritional supplements in the field of grassroots sports (mostly in fitness centers) could lead to.
The training event was logically planned in order to go through the widest range of information. In the first two days the National Anti-Doping Center experts presented the main policies, the activities implemented by the Center and the prevention and control methods. On the third day of the event, the Bulgarian Association of Fitness and Health gave the participants the point of view of the practice, also presented the results of a project in the area of the use of prohibited substances in fitness centers and interesting campaigns that have been implemented in Europe. On the fourth day of the seminar the participants had the opportunity to examine the regulatory and legislative framework of Bulgaria which concerns the use of doping and food supplements and to give suggestions about the optimization of this document with the help of the experience they have from the practice. The results of this day, and the overall training were presented at the roundtable, which was held on Friday, the 16th of March, 2018, which was attended by Krasen Kralev, Minister of Youth and Sports, Prof. Tatiana Yancheva, Deputy. Rector of the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski", Dr. Violeta Zarkova, executive director of the National Anti-Doping Center, Joanna Dochevska - Chairwoman of the Bulgarian Sports Development Association, representatives of the Regional Governance of Education - Sofia city, Confederation "Health Protection”, representatives of the Academy of the Ministry of Interior, sports organizations and the academic community in sport, people interested in sport and the participants in the five-day training.
“The evidence that more and more young athletes start to use doping in their free time in a very early age is worrying”, warned Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev and pointed out that education is our only weapon against prohibited and dangerous substances. “The problem is valid for whole Europe and all experts admit to that we are not prepared to deal with it. While there are strict international rules in sports for achievements, and there is a built-in tracking system, proof of doping and relevant sanctions by international sports organizations, in grassroots sports these procedures are not applicable. Our only weapon is the education”, said the minister. In his speech he emphasized the fact that anti-doping policy is one of the main priorities of the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU in the Sport sector. The need for prevention through training was the subject of the first event the MYS organized as part of its activities for the presidency - Seminar on the Prevention of Doping on the 24th and 25th of January in Sofia.
During the press conference, the results of the international anti-doping conference, which took place in Opatija, Croatia, in the period 05 - 06 June 2018 in which more than 100 representatives from Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Sweden, Portugal and Bulgaria discussed the issue and analyzed the problems that each country encounters in preventing and combating banned substances. Bulgaria was presented by Joanna Docchevska and Ivaylo Zdravkov from Bulgarian sports development association, Dr. Hristina Ivancheva from the National Anti-Doping Center, Prof. Tsvetko Tsvetkov and Grigor Goutev from the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski", Ivan Tilev - professional basketball player and owner of NordGym Fitness Center.
During the conference, the participants had the opportunity to take part in an inspiring discussion with Andreas Krueger. The Ministry of Education and Culture stated that the aim of the GDP is to acquire “diplomats in sports suits” through a “state plan 1425”, which stimulates the use of steroids in order to achieve maximum sporting outcomes. One proof for the implementation of this plan is the case with Haidie Kruger, who undergoes a sex change operation in the 90s of the last century. Today, Andreas Krueger (new name of Haidie) is married to Ute Kruze, who shares Andreas's sporting fate. Andreas and Ute took an active part in the event and shared their story, as well as responding to many questions about how doping has changed their lives and fate.
The anti-doping centers of Denmark, Austria, Sweden, Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria and Slovenia presented good practices and exchanged experience on the prevention of doping in mass sports (mostly in fitness centers). The program included panels on the role of the media and the synergy of public institutions and sports organizations in the fight against banned substances.
Partners in the JUST SPORT project are organizations linked to an innovative consortium from Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal and Sweden.
