INTERNATIONAL MEETING UNDER THE WOMEN’S HURDLES PROJECT WAS HELD IN ATHENS

In the period 08–11 June 2022, in Athens, Greece the first meeting of the "WOMEN'S HURDLES" project was held. The project has the aim to develop and implement innovative practices related to the promotion of women's physical activity, especially of those in a dynamic family and work environment. The project objective is to promote and support EU strategies in the area of social inclusion and equal opportunities of women, which are based on physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. The duration of the project is 24 months and involves 6 partner organizations from 5 European countries – Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Lithuania and Romania. Research and online activities have been carried out so far. By the end of the project, international and national training of sports specialists is forthcoming, within which the foundations of targeted activities regarding the inclusion of members of the fair sex in sports activities will be laid.
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT ARE:
1. Raising awareness of the risks of women’s sedentary lifestyle;
2. Getting acquainted with the positive effects of physical activity;
3. Development of time optimization skills;
4. Increasing the motivation of women to perform physical activity and sports;
5. Overcoming barriers and prejudices;
6. Following pre-prepared sports programs in order to increase the level of physical activity.

THE MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THE WOMAN HURDLESS PROJECT ARE:
1. The first international meeting of the project partners was held online, during which the goals, activities and tasks of the project were presented and discussed;
2. Project meeting in Athens, Greece, during which contacts of partners at European, national, regional or local level, who are going to receive detailed information about the project, were summarized;
3. Project meeting in Rome, Italy, during which, based on the results of the study and the analysis of good practice, experts from the partner countries are going to prepare the final document called "Manifesto with Golden Rules", based on data suggesting increasing the participation of women in sports and physical activity programs which are going to be implemented in the health system and the society;
4. Closing conference and partnership meeting to present the results of the project in Vilnius, Lithuania;
5. During the project, regular online meetings are going to be held to discuss its achievements and development.

EXPECTED RESULTS:
1. Encourage participation in sport and physical activity, especially by supporting the implementation of the Council Recommendation on health-enhancing physical activity and being in line with the EU Physical Activity Guidelines;
2. Encourage education through sport;
3. Reinforce cooperation with partners from other countries;
4. Increase quality in the preparation, implementation, monitoring and follow-up of EU/international sport projects;
5. Encourage citizens to participate in sport and health enhancing physical activity;
6. Create more dynamic and professional environment, ready to integrate good practices and new methods into daily activities of the citizens.
