THE TEAM THAT BRINGS CHANGE!

07.07.2022
SPRINT is the only specialized sports magazine in Bulgaria. It has been published since November 2016 in each quarter in a very impressive volume of 140–160 pages. The amazing collector's edition has a regular circulation of between 6000 and 8000 issues. Free applications are often published together with SPRINT – World Cup 2018, Champions League, Formula 1 ... And from the beginning of 2020, together with each issue, readers receive a separate book FUTURE – only for children and youth sports in Bulgaria. A special emphasis in the editorial policy is the serious attention paid to the sport for teenagers and its benefits. SPRINT contains only author’s materials, richly illustrated with own photos. The magazine satisfies the hunger of the real fan for intelligent and curious sports readings, comments, interviews, statistics, portraits, analyzes, photoshoots ... So far all of the biggest stars of Bulgarian sports have appeared on its pages and on the cover – Hristo Stoichkov, Dimitar Berbatov, Ivet Lalova, Grigor Dimitrov, Kubrat Pulev, the Golden Girls in Rhythmic Gymnastics, Yordan Yovchev, Dimitar Penev, Boyan Petrov, Alexandra Zhekova and others. SPRINT is a free territory for exchanging opinions on pressing issues, its pages are open to the best in Bulgarian (and world!) sports journalism.
The new issue 29 of SPRINT is now on the market with a variety of topics on 132 gorgeous colour pages. The magazine can be found in the usual places – Lukoil, Shell, Eco, Rompetrol and Nispetrol petrol stations, Fantastico and Kaufland, in Inmedio stores and the better magazine and newspaper outlets.

The team that brings change!
Basketball is played in 215 countries. At least by 215 million people. The magic of the orange ball recognizes no boundaries, gender, age, creed. It already enchanted the people with different abilities and different needs. The world has long enjoyed the game in wheelchairs. Adapted basketball for people with intellectual disabilities, unified basketball, basketball for athletes with sensory impairments, and variations of the game among people with a broad spectrum of inclusion Baskin, totally inclusive basketball (T'in basketball) are being developed.
There are several most important conditions for it to happen in our country. A safe environment, qualified professionals and volunteers. And a lot of desire, commitment and love.
For several years the adapted basketball team at the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" has shown that these conditions already exist and the cause of athletes with special needs can be defended in Bulgaria. The implementation of the initiative is steadily making its way – this is the adapted basketball team at the NSA and part of the United Sports program of Special Olympics Bulgaria.
In "The Team", as its creators Assoc. Prof. Stefka Dzhobova and Assoc. Prof. Mariana Borukova call it, there are no impossible things. There are endless undiscovered opportunities for sports and personal development. Starting with eight young people with intellectual disabilities, in just 3 years the initiative has grown to a team of over 30 athletes. The training and competitions are only possible together with their sports partners – NSA students in the fields of Basketball and Adapted Physical Activity.
It is obvious that everyone has possibilities and talent, as long as the prerequisites for expression are created. The "team" trains regularly thanks to the support of the NSA and the Bulgarian sports development association. The rich sports calendar, provided by Special Olympics Bulgaria, has given opportunities through which the team enjoys the sympathy and support of not only the Bulgarian but also the foreign audience. In April 2022, the special athletes and their sports partners took part in an international basketball fest Basketjoy in the Swedish town of Huskvarna (2020-1-ES01-KA226-SCH-094897) together with teams from Great Britain, Spain and Sweden.
As well as inspiring, the brave display of skill was moving. And the coaches from Bulgaria passed on valuable experience to their colleagues who plan to develop such inclusive practice.
What motivates the creators to keep developing this initiative more and more? The answer is easy – every single practice! Every little success makes them look for new opportunities to conquer new heights and challenges for the team and the athletes. The small peaks are not only on the sports stage and not necessarily crowned with a medal, but also the tangible positive adaptation of the team members in society through increased self-confidence, improved communication and social competences and improved functional status. Participation in demonstration public events positively influences public attitudes, but most valuable is the creation of a micro-community based on acceptance and respect for differences. The sparkle in the eyes of athletes is the motive that has pulled forward the rapid development of adapted physical activity and sport in our country in recent years. And as a mirror of society, the sports sector is opening up more and more to all. Because we all have our rightful place in it and access to sport should be a priority for the country, as it has been for over ten years for the European community.
Structured processes of ensuring adapted physical activity and sport in a country are an integral part of the developed democratic societies. To a large extent, we could guess how developed the solidarity of a society is according to the extent to which it has managed to include all its units and has provided the conditions for each one to develop and contribute to the environment in which he lives according to what he can do. Inclusive policies are not new to the world and European sports federations and in the last decade they have also reached the national level in a tangible way – through national federations' programmes the way is being paved for future full inclusion. An example is the Bulgarian Basketball Federation, which supports the national development of all adaptations of the game of basketball.
The Special Olympics motto is "Give me a chance to win, if I fail, then let me be brave in my attempt!". Let's believe in Special Olympics athletes and support them to show us how great their abilities are. In this way, the impossible ceases to exist and the magic of sport begins to unfold its power
