08.04.2025
On April 8, 2025, the town of Kardzhali hosted an inspiring sports day dedicated to inclusion through sports. The event, titled "Adapted sports for all," was organized by the Sunny Kids Sports Club in partnership with Kardzhali Municipality, experts from the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski,” and the Bulgarian sports development association.
The event began with an informational meeting at the Kardzhali Municipality building, where good practices and opportunities for the development of adapted sports were presented. The meeting brought together representatives from local authorities, sports clubs, educational and social institutions. A special focus was placed on the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities through active participation in sports.
As part of the initiative, Sunny Kids Sports Club received a donation of sports equipment provided through the Sport for Social Change program by PH International. This donation will support future activities aimed at engaging children and youth with disabilities in adapted sports activities.
The second part of the event took place at the Arpezos Sports Hall, where a multi-sport demonstration event was held in a station-based format. Participants with intellectual disabilities had the opportunity to take part in activities such as floorball, pickleball, relay races, curling, sack races, and other adapted sports. The involvement of volunteers and students specializing in “Adapted physical activity and sport” from the National Sports Academy significantly contributed to the practical organization and professional execution of the event.
This event served as a strong example of effective collaboration between local authorities, educational institutions, and sports organizations in the name of accessible and inclusive sports for all. The initiative reaffirmed the role of sports as a powerful tool for social integration and personal development.
