BSDA took part in key European meetings on the future of the Erasmus+ programme and the role of sport
11.12.2025
Bulgarian sports development association (BSDA) took part in two major European-level events held in Brussels on 10 and 11 December 2025, focusing on the future of the Erasmus+ programme and the development of sport as a strategic tool for social impact. On December 10th 2025, Joanna Dochevska, chairperson of BSDA, participated in a consultative meeting with sport policy-makers organised by the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) of the European Parliament. The meeting focused on preparations for the new Erasmus+ regulation for the 2028–2034 programming period, with a particular emphasis on the sport dimension of the programme.
During the discussions, representatives of European sport organisations, institutions and networks presented their recommendations to the European Parliament rapporteur, Bogdan Zdrojewski. BSDA outlined a position highlighting:
• The need for a clearly identifiable and well-funded sport component in the future Erasmus+ programme;
• Empowerment and capacity-building of sport organisations across Europe;
• The preservation of the current centralised funding framework for sport activities, in order to ensure sustainability of the results achieved in recent years and to build on an already well-functioning funding administration model;
• Recognition of sport as a social phenomenon with a key contribution to public health, social inclusion and community resilience;
• Ensuring quality and professionalism in sport-related activities;
• Improved functioning of centralised horizontal calls, which are more accessible to the sport sector.
The second event was an Erasmus+ Sport Info Day organised by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). The full-day agenda presented the EU’s main policy priorities in the field of sport, updates on the Erasmus+ Sport calls for proposals, as well as opportunities for mobility of sport professionals, capacity-building and the strategic development of the European Sport Model. The event also offered extensive networking opportunities and exchange of good practices among 670 sport organisations, European institutions and national agencies. BSDA was actively represented by Joanna Dochevska and Ivaylo Zdravkov. The Erasmus+ budget for sport-related activities this year amounts to over €5 million and will support initiatives promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles, social inclusion and equal access to sport, good governance and sustainable practices in sport. The application deadline is 5 March 2026.
BSDA’s participation in these two events reaffirms the organisation’s active role in the European dialogue on the future of sport and its strong commitment to the development of sustainable, inclusive and high-quality sport policies and practices in Bulgaria and across Europe.
