16.04.2026
Bulgarian sports development association (BSDA) participated in the European Sport Forum 2026, held in the period 15 – 16 April, in Paphos, Cyprus. Joanna Dochevska, chairperson of the association, took part in the event, joined discussions and exchanged experience with representatives of institutions, sports organizations, and experts from across Europe.
The European Sport Forum is the European Union’s main annual event in the field of sport and serves as a key platform for dialogue between EU institutions, sports organizations, federations, and civil society. It helps shape European sport policies and priorities. This year’s participants were welcomed by Glenn Micallef, who presented the European Commission’s vision for sport development in Europe, emphasizing equal access, solidarity, and the role of sport in society. The forum also brought together leading figures from the international sports movement, including Kirsty Coventry, who highlighted the importance of sport as a tool for education, equality, and social inclusion.
The agenda covered key topics shaping the future of sport – from mental health and resilience to the role of physical activity in quality of life, as well as sustainability and investment in the sports sector. Discussions were also focused on integrity in sport, the relationship between grassroots and elite sport, as well as the broader importance of sport for society.
BSDA’s participation in the European Sport Forum 2026 marks another step in the organization’s active engagement in European processes and its contribution to the development of a more inclusive, sustainable, and socially responsible sport in Europe.
