25.06.2026
Bulgarian sports development (BSDA) association took part in an online capacity-building event organized by the SHARE 2.0 Community of Practice on Sport and Society, dedicated to the topic: “From experience to opportunity: leveraging sport volunteering for transferable skills development”. The event brought together representatives of sports organizations, universities, and European experts to discuss the role of volunteering as a tool for acquiring valuable knowledge, skills, and competencies that can be applied not only in sport, but also in professional and personal life. A key focus was placed on the need for skills gained through volunteering to be better recognized, assessed, and utilized beyond the boundaries of the sports sector.
During the training, participants explored best practices and outcomes from European initiatives related to attracting and retaining volunteers, developing human and social capital through sport, strengthening the capacity of volunteer coordinators, and fostering transversal competencies that enhance employability and career opportunities.

Speakers included representatives from the European Observatoire of Sport and Employment (EOSE), Sheffield Hallam University (United Kingdom), the University of Sunderland in London (United Kingdom), the German Sport University Cologne (Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln), and the European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation (ENGSO). They presented practical approaches and research findings focused on volunteer engagement and retention, the development of human capital through sport, and the recognition of skills acquired through volunteering.

BSDA’s participation in the initiative is part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to exchanging European expertise, strengthening the capacity of the sports sector, and promoting volunteering as a key driver for building active communities, social inclusion, and sustainable development through sport.

BSDA has been a long-standing member of the SHARE initiative and continues to actively use the platform to highlight the significant impact of sport on regional and local development. Through its involvement in SHARE 2.0, the organization contributes to European dialogue and collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening the role of sport across European, national, regional, and local policies. BSDA remains committed to advancing sport in Bulgaria by encouraging its integration across all areas of public life and promoting the benefits of physical activity for health, social inclusion, and sustainable development.
