BDSA signs the EC’s Green Sport Manifesto
03.08.2026
Bulgarian sports development association (BSDA) has officially joined the European Commission’s Green Sport Manifesto, an initiative that encourages sports organisations across Europe to make concrete commitments to sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of sport. Developed as part of the SHARE 2.0 initiative, the Manifesto aims to make sustainability an integral part of the governance and development of European sport.
By signing the Green Sport Manifesto, BSDA becomes part of a Europe-wide community of sports organisations that share the belief that sport has the power not only to improve people’s health and quality of life, but also to drive positive social change through responsible resource management, sustainable governance, and environmentally friendly practices.
As a signatory to the Manifesto, BSDA commits to taking action in five key areas:
• Strengthening effective sustainability governance within the organisation;
• Developing and implementing sustainability policies;
• Measuring and monitoring progress towards sustainability goals;
• Promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of green sport;
• Developing, using, and sharing tools and best practices for sustainable sport.
Over the past several years, sustainability has become a natural and growing part of BSDA’s work. The organisation has consistently taken steps to reduce the use of paper through digital solutions, organise events with a lower environmental footprint, encourage active mobility, and build international partnerships that place sustainability among their core priorities.
Signing the Green Sport Manifesto is the next logical step in this journey and reaffirms BSDA’s commitment to playing an active role in Europe’s efforts to create a more sustainable, responsible, and innovative sports sector.
BSDA believes that sustainability is not a one-time initiative, but a long-term commitment. For this reason, the organisation will continue to integrate sustainable development principles into its projects, training activities, international partnerships, and sporting events, while encouraging other organisations to join the growing European movement for greener sport.
