A European Sport Forum was held in Bucharest

In the period 08 - 09 April 2019, a Sport Forum 2019 was organized in Bucharest, Romania, as part of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, organized by the European Commission - Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture and gathered over 400 policy makers from across Europe. The forum #EUSportForum was officially opened by Romanian Olympic Committee Chairman Mihai Cualiou and Director for Innovation, International Cooperation and Sport at the Directorate - General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission, Antoaneta Angelova-Krasteva, who shared: "The European Sport Forum, which starts in Bucharest, will highlight the future of the anti-doping system, the role of sports federations in European sport policy and their involvement in improving the conditions for mass sport for EU citizens. Enormous progress has been made in recent years, including targeted funding for sports through the Erasmus+ program and a constructive dialogue with sports structures at various levels, which has never been so purposeful and productive before".
The main issues of the 2019 are the fight against doping, good governance in sport and the rights of athletes, a healthy lifestyle and the role of schools, European policies in sport, gender equality in sport for all, and its overall development. The current format of the European Sport Forum was outlined in the European Commission's White Paper on Sport (2007), which supported an accessible vision for sport at European level. The annual event, held in the first half of every year, in the country holding the Presidency of the EU Council, is a major opportunity for interaction and exchange of ideas between the European and international sporting families. Participants in the meeting are sports organizations at national or international level, representatives of national and local sports governing bodies, academics in sport, policy makers at national and European level, including representatives of the European institutions responsible for sport and partners of the European Week of Sport. Joanna Dochevska, Chairwoman of the Bulgarian sports development association, took part of the event in Romania. She presented current projects and initiatives of the organization, among which are the supported by the European Commission "Good Governance in Sport", "Sports Diplomacy Academy" and "Back2Track".
Tibor Navracic - European Commissioner with responsibility for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture shared his vision of the policies and future initiatives of the European Commission implemented in recent years: “We need trusted partners in the field of sport to continue the conversation about good governance. The Declaration of Good Governance, which the European Commission initiated several years ago, is already supported by many sports organizations at national and international levels and we are pleased that our efforts are turning into real policies. Sport is evolving and we are seeing new models for organizing sports activities and events. Sport organizations continue to be a key player with the specific knowledge and international network required to deliver a sustainable European sport model. European funding in the field is also bigger than ever, with Erasmus+ alone investing € 46 million in 2018 and € 59 million in 2019, and the clear trend for the future is that this increase will continue to provide sustained support for sports for all”.
