SHOWDOWN

Active Holy Thursday in Sofia

17.04.2025
On April 17, 2025, Holy Thursday, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, Student Park in Sofia turned into a vibrant and joyful place full of movement, creativity, and festive spirit. The park hosted the traditional Easter egg painting event, combined with fun sports games, bringing smiles to the faces of dozens of children from local kindergartens and schools. The young participants didn’t just decorate eggs with imagination and color – they also took part in various outdoor activities designed to encourage teamwork, physical movement, and the joyful celebration of the holiday.
The event was organized by the Sofia Municipality – “Studentski” district, in partnership with the Local Commission for Combating Antisocial Behaviors of Minors – Studentski District, and Bulgarian sports development association. The partners have long worked together to create healthy, educational, and inclusive experiences for children in the community.
To keep the kids entertained, Darko Team Athletics School joined in with their sports experts, organizing a range of active games. A special guest at the event was the school’s cheerful mascot – Darko the smiling wasp – who danced with the children and helped make the celebration even more memorable.
During the event, participants also learned about the activities of the "SHOWDOWN" initiative, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme. The project aims to promote and support the inclusion of people with visual impairments in sports and physical activities, helping improve their health and boost their social integration. At the heart of the project is the promotion of showdown – an inclusive sport accessible to people of all ages, genders, and abilities.
