Integrated start at the Darko Team Baby Cup

11.05.2025
More than 500 children took part in the traditional athletics competition for kids – Darko Team Baby Cup, held on May 11, 2025, at the “Vasil Levski” National Stadium in the capital. The seventh edition of the Darko Team Baby Cup brought together young athletes aged 4 to 13 in an innovative format that included exercises from the “Kids’ Athletics” program and 50 and 60-meter sprints. All finishers received custom-designed medals, and the group warm-up before the races helped reduce stress and created a pleasant atmosphere for participants, coaches, and parents. The mascot, Darko Junior the Wasp, supported the children and added even more spirit to the event.
The competition began with two adapted 50-meter races, featuring children with intellectual disabilities. The inclusion of integrated starts in well-established sports events is an extremely important step in supporting people with disabilities and their full inclusion, and the example set by the organizers of the Darko Team Baby Cup has become a consistently successful practice over the past few years.
The competitors were divided into several heats and competed under the slogan #BeActiveTogether – an initiative of Bulgarian sports development association, supported by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, which promotes sustainable inclusion of individuals with intellectual disabilities in sports activities at the local, national, and international levels. The sporting event included young athletic talents in inclusive sports from “BG and Sports for All,” SEN Sport Sambo for Development, Athletics Sports Club “Zlaten otbor” (Golden team) from the town of Svishtov, Club for Adapted Sports, as well as volunteers from the “Adapted Physical Activity and Sport” department at NSA “Vasil Levski”.
