#BeActiveTogether Olympic Day 2025
23.06.2025
On June 23, 2025, as part of the 19th edition of the Summer Camp for Adapted Water Sports of NSA "Vasil Levski", an inspiring celebration of International Olympic Day took place. Over 100 participants – children and young people with special needs, students, lecturers, volunteers, and international guests – united in the name of Olympic values, filling the NSA sports facility in Nessebar with energy, smiles, and genuine joy of movement.
The festive day began with a blessing for health and success, performed by the Sliven Holy Metropolis, followed by a ceremonial procession with the Bulgarian flag, the Olympic flag, and the NSA flag. Participants took part in mini Olympic games, which included athletics, parkour, SUP, and kayaking, and the highlight was a swimming marathon that involved everyone – with enthusiasm and Olympic spirit. The medals were awarded by Prof. Nikolay Izov – Vice-Rector of NSA, and Assoc. Prof. Yordan Donev – Head of the “Water Sports” Department.

The adapted water sports camp at NSA "Vasil Levski" is a long-standing good practice, organized by students and teachers from the “Adapted Physical Activity and Sports” program, and it represents a valuable opportunity for both professional growth and personal development for future specialists as well as for the participants with special needs.

As part of the camp in Nessebar, 17 athletes with intellectual disabilities from Greece, representatives of AETOI Thessalonikis, actively participated in the activities, forming new friendships and exchanging experiences with their Bulgarian peers. This event marks the beginning of a friendship between the athletes of the two countries, who are part of the #BeActiveTogether initiative, within which an international sports camp will take place in Thessaloniki in October 2025. #BeActiveTogether is a joint initiative of Bulgarian sports development association and AETOI Thessalonikis and is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. Although this meeting is not officially part of the project’s activities, it provided yet another opportunity for athletes from both countries to play sports together. The project aims to overcome social isolation and discrimination faced by people with intellectual disabilities through their active involvement in sports activities and mobility opportunities.

With #BeActiveTogether, sport becomes a bridge to inclusion, empowerment, and positive change. For more information, visit: www.beactivetogether.org and follow the initiative on social media.
