#BeActiveTogether International Sport Camp in Thessaloniki

From October 12–15, 2025, Thessaloniki, Greece, hosted the international #BeActiveTogether Sport Camp, an inspiring event dedicated to promoting inclusion, physical activity, and friendship through sport. The camp gathered over 50 participants, including 40 persons with intellectual disabilities, coaches, social workers, and project coordinators from Bulgaria and Greece.
The event was hosted by AETOI Thessalonikis and the Bulgarian group was coordinated by the Bulgarian Sports Development Association (BSDA). Over four days, participants shared unforgettable experiences, demonstrating how sport can break barriers and unite people of all abilities. The camp program included two main sport days featuring a basketball tournament, a RunChallenge, and athletics competitions such as running, long jump, shot put, and targeting games. Each activity was designed to encourage teamwork, confidence, and inclusion in a supportive and joyful environment. Medals, and appreciation gifts were presented to celebrate the achievements and efforts of all participants.

Official guests of the camp included the Deputy Minister of Development, Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, who through his presence and words emphasized the importance of such initiatives for building a more open, active, and engaged society. The athletes were also honored by the presence of the Deputy Mayor for Sports of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Ms. Koula Giannakidou, the Special Advisor on Disability Affairs, Ms. Sofia Skabardoni, the Head of the Sports Department, Mr. Prokopiou, Professor Evangelinou from the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the President of the Thessaloniki Basketball Referees Association, Mr. Pantazis.

The #BeActiveTogether project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, continues to create meaningful opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities to engage in sports and develop essential life skills while promoting unity and equality across Europe.
