#BeActiveTogether final meeting in Sofia
28.10.2026
The Bulgarian Sports Development Association (BSDA) and its Greek partner AETOI Thessalonikis held the final international meeting of the Erasmus+ Sport project #BeActiveTogether on 28th of October 2026 in Sofia, marking an important milestone in their joint efforts to promote social inclusion and equal opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities through sport. Launched in March 2025 #BeActiveTogether was developed to address social isolation and discrimination by creating opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to participate in local and international sporting activities.
The initiative combined practical sports experiences, educational activities and international cooperation to encourage social interaction, empowerment and the development of new skills.

Throughout the project, local training activities were implemented in Bulgaria and Greece, supporting the development of more inclusive approaches to physical activity and strengthening the capacity of those involved in working with people with intellectual disabilities. These activities contributed to the exchange of practical knowledge and experience in adapting sports activities to different abilities and individual needs. Another important component was the organisation of international #BeActiveTogether sports camps in Bulgaria and Greece, bringing the project's objectives into practice through shared sporting experiences and cross-border participation. The camps provided opportunities for participants to engage in physical activity, interact with peers from another country, experience new environments and develop social and personal skills through sport. They also encouraged cooperation among coaches, accompanying professionals and organisations working in inclusive sport. The project also focused on the development of the #BeActiveTogether Handbook, an educational resource designed to support coaches, educators, social workers and other professionals in creating accessible and inclusive sporting environments. The Handbook brings together practical approaches and methodologies intended to facilitate the participation of people with intellectual disabilities in sports activities.

During the final meeting on 28 October 2026, the partners reviewed the implementation and results of these activities, discussed participants' feedback and lessons learned, and assessed progress towards the project's objectives. Special attention was given to the final review of the Handbook, the availability of educational resources and the dissemination of project results. The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the long-term impact of #BeActiveTogether and the continuation of cooperation between BSDA and AETOI Thessalonikis. The partners explored possibilities for future joint activities, building on the experience gained through the local trainings, international sports camps and development of educational materials.

Through its combination of practical activities, international mobility and educational resources, #BeActiveTogether has contributed to creating more opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to participate in sport, develop their abilities and become active members of their communities. Although the project is approaching its conclusion, the partnerships, experience and resources developed through #BeActiveTogether provide a foundation for continued efforts towards more accessible and inclusive sport.
