Beyond Barriers
Social media training for sports organisations
02.10.2026
On October 2nd, 2026, Bulgarian sports development association (BSDA) held a practical training session entitled “Social Media for Sports Organisations” in Sofia, aimed at representatives of sports clubs, sports federations and non-governmental organisations working with people with disabilities through sport. The training was part of the activities of the Beyond Barriers project, co-funded by Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
During the training, participants explored practical approaches to using social media more effectively to promote their organisations’ work, build active online communities and reach more participants, volunteers, partners and potential donors.
Particular attention was given to Facebook and Instagram and the different opportunities that posts, Stories and Reels offer for reaching and engaging audiences. Participants looked at practical examples of how to tell their organisations’ stories through a combination of text, photos and video, how to plan their content, and how a single sports event can be turned into a variety of content for several communication channels.
In the second part of the training, the focus shifted to LinkedIn as a tool for building professional visibility and trust, showcasing projects, results and expertise, and reaching partners, institutions and potential donors. Participants also explored ways of combining personal professional profiles with their organisations’ pages.
The practical agenda also covered video content for YouTube, TikTok and Reels – what makes a short video engaging, how to shoot effectively using a smartphone, and how different formats and platforms can be used depending on the target audience and communication objectives. Participants discussed specific content ideas related to sports events, campaigns and projects, as well as ways in which such content can contribute to greater visibility and social impact.
The training was delivered by Konstantin Zankov, marketing and business consultant, entrepreneur and lecturer with extensive practical experience in marketing, digital communications and business development. He is the founder of the consulting and marketing company Travel Mind and has worked as a consultant for hundreds of companies in Bulgaria and abroad. He teaches courses related to digital marketing, artificial intelligence in business, e-business and digital communications.
The training is part of the efforts of Beyond Barriers – an international initiative supported by the Erasmus+ programme aimed at strengthening the capacity and visibility of organisations working in the field of inclusive sport. The project provides practical training, good practice exchange and a freely accessible resource centre featuring tools and expert materials that support organisations in communicating their work and impact more effectively and reaching more people.
The “Social Media for Sports Organisations” training was the second in a series of practical training sessions under Beyond Barriers, aimed at strengthening the communication capacity and visibility of inclusive sports organisations.
