European Week of Winter Sports kicks off in Bulgaria with exciting events

On February 2, 2025, Bulgaria officially launched the first pilot edition of the European Week of Winter Sports (#BeActiveWinter) with a series of exciting and accessible initiatives for everyone. Co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, this initiative brings together eight European countries in order to promote an active lifestyle during winter and encourage sustainable sports practices.
On the first day of the European Week of Winter Sports, four key events were organized across different regions of the country, giving hundreds of participants the chance to experience the magic of winter sports:
✅ BEACTIVEWINTER Sunrise Ski Touring and Split Boarding – Pamporovo
The day began with a ski and snowboard tour in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, organized by reSTARTzona82 Pamporovo. Participants hiked up the slopes before sunrise and enjoyed a unique tea ceremony at the summit. The event was open to both experienced athletes and complete beginners.
✅ Vetrovala Ski Open Day – Vitosha
At the “Vetrovala” ski slope on Vitosha Mountain, Zi Sport – Zdravka Ilieva hosted a free open ski training session for children and adults. The event provided an opportunity for beginners to take their first steps in skiing and for others to improve their technique in a supportive environment.
✅ Winter Relay "Adventure" – Uzana, Gabrovo
At the "Gorskoto" ski slope, the sports club SKLA "Zlaten Otbor" (Golden Team) organized a dynamic winter relay featuring activities such as a snow maze, sled pulling, and snow relay challenges. Special attention was given to children with special educational needs, with adapted activities designed just for them.
✅ Open Hockey Training – Winter Sports Palace, Sofia
To end the day, “Levski” Ice Hockey Club invited children aged 4 to 16 to try ice hockey at the Winter Sports Palace. The young participants had the chance to get acquainted with the sport and train under the guidance of professional coaches.
The pilot edition of the European Week of Winter Sports will continue until February 8, featuring a total of 10 events across four locations in Bulgaria. All activities are free and open to the public, aiming to encourage physical activity during winter and expand sports opportunities for all ages.

The first pilot edition will take place from February 1-8, 2025, in Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg, Slovenia, and Spain.
