The European Week of Sport is an initiative of the European Commission to promote physical activity among EU citizens. In Bulgaria, the national coordinator is the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the initiative is carried out with funding from the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme. The motto of this anniversary edition is: “Make your day green, live with sport, be active all year round.” The agenda included numerous activities promoting an active lifestyle and healthy eating habits.

Bulgarian sports development association traditionally took part in the event, presenting its current initiatives, that are co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, during the two days of the fair:
• “POP-UP” project, which aims to support the education and integration of adults, especially women and people with disabilities, by providing opportunities for participation in innovative training activities related to physical activity and sport. Special emphasis is placed on health, well-being, and the development of skills important for employment;

• “European Week of Winter Sport”, which aims to encourage participation in sport and physical activity during the winter months. Following the success of the pilot edition of the European Week of Winter Sport in 2025, the campaign will be held again next year from February 1–8, 2026, in Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg, Slovenia, and Spain. Event registration is already open, and until December 31, 2025, organizers can submit information at https://wintersportweek.com/event-registration/, to be included in the calendar of the European Week of Sport 2026;

• Bet on Sport, which focuses on the growing problem of gambling addiction in Europe. Through the positive impact of physical activity, the initiative aims to support the recovery of people struggling with addiction by encouraging their participation in sports activities.

During the fair, Bulgarian sports development association also presented the platform “Sport Close to You”, which helps everyone find organized training sessions in different sports and provides up-to-date information about sports clubs and activities. Registration for clubs is completely free, and organizations that offer adapted programs can mark them specifically to be more easily discovered by users.
