European Week of Winter Sport

The European Week of Winter Sports returns in 2026!
19.11.2025
On November 19, 2025, participants from across Europe joined an online webinar dedicated to the European Week of Winter Sports (EWWS) 2026. After the successful pilot edition in 2025, the initiative will return from February 1 to 8, 2026, with the goal of encouraging winter physical activity outside of competitive sport, raising awareness of sustainable practices, and making winter activities more accessible and inclusive for everyone. The project, co-funded by the European Union, is implemented by nine organizations from eight countries, which aim to build on the 2025 success, when 36 events were organized in more than 10 countries with over 2,100 participants.
The webinar opened with an overview of EWWS and its main objectives, as well as a review of the events from the previous year’s pilot edition and the plans to expand the initiative in 2026. During the meeting, a variety of good practices were shared – from weekly winter group sessions in cold-water swimming and breathing techniques to combined sail&ski events aimed at people of all ages and focused on reducing environmental impact. The next part of the online event presented how EWWS will provide greater visibility for event organizers through its communication channels, including its website and social media platforms. Participants received access to a communication toolkit, visual materials, and educational resources to support the planning and promotion of their activities. Special attention was given to integrating sustainability principles at every stage of preparing and hosting winter sports events.

The steps for registering events were also clarified. Registration is open until December 31, 2025, through the official European Week of Winter Sport website. This is an excellent opportunity for clubs, schools, universities, municipalities, and local organizers to become part of a European movement, encourage winter physical activity, and take advantage of all benefits offered by the initiative. Event registration is already open and available at: https://wintersportweek.com/event-registration/ until the end of the year for organizers wishing to be included in the 2026 European Week of Sport calendar.
