European Week of Winter Sport
European week of winter sports 2026 kicks off with inspiration, movement, and winter smiles
05.02.2026
On February 2nd 2026, the second edition of European week of winter sports officially launched in Bulgaria. The initiative is part of a Europe-wide campaign and is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. Taking place from 1 to 8 February, the campaign promotes physical activity and winter sports, with a strong focus on sustainability, safety, and inclusive access to movement for everyone.
The first days of the agenda have already brought a true winter atmosphere and shared emotions for participants of all ages and abilities. The opening event took place on February 2nd 2026 with a “Winter kindergarten Olympics” at Kindergarten No. 59 “Elhitsa” in Sofia. The youngest participants enjoyed outdoor movement games, fun winter challenges, and age-appropriate activities conducted in a safe environment. When weather conditions allowed, classic winter fun was also included – building snowmen, making snow angels, and snowball target games. Children with special educational needs took part alongside all other children present at the kindergarten that day, highlighting the inclusive spirit of the initiative.
Winter energy continued on February 3rd 2026 with a “Winter conditioning training session” in Sofia, organised by Lokomotiv Sofia – basketball. The event focused on maintaining physical fitness during the colder months and brought together participants who proved that winter is a great season for movement, discipline, and sports spirit.
On February 4th 2026, the programme moved to the mountains with a “Winter sports festival in Borovets” (10:00 – 12:00), organised by the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski”, snow sports department. The outdoor festival was beginner-friendly and introduced participants to winter sports in a fun, safe, and inclusive way. The programme featured basic ski and snowboard lessons, snow games, equipment demonstrations, and important safety briefings for responsible behaviour in a mountain environment.
