European Week of Winter Sport
EWWS 2026: A Record-Breaking Celebration of Winter Sport Across 30 Countries
26.03.2026
The European Week of Winter Sport 2026 (EWWS) has successfully concluded, marking another milestone in promoting physical activity, community engagement, and winter sport participation across Europe. This year’s edition brought together 237 events in 30 countries, engaging an impressive 502,000 participants from a wide range of backgrounds, including schools, sport clubs, municipalities, and grassroots organisations.
The initiative continues to demonstrate the strong demand for accessible and inclusive sport opportunities during the winter season. Activities ranged from skiing and skating to outdoor fitness, school-based initiatives, and community events, all contributing to a more active and connected Europe.
One of the key strengths of EWWS 2026 has been its grassroots-driven approach, empowering local organisers to design and deliver activities tailored to their communities. This has resulted in a diverse and dynamic programme, reflecting the cultural and geographical richness of the participating countries.
Beyond participation, EWWS also reinforced important values such as:
● Inclusion, by engaging participants of all ages and abilities;
● Sustainability, through environmentally conscious event organisation;
● Community building, by connecting local stakeholders and promoting active lifestyles.
The communication campaign surrounding EWWS further amplified its impact, encouraging participants and organisers to share their experiences through photos and videos, contributing to a growing European narrative around winter sport.
The final phase of the initiative will highlight the winners of the EWWS Promotional Contest and the Sustainability Award, celebrating the most inspiring stories and best practices emerging from this year’s edition.
With its continued growth and strong engagement, the European Week of Winter Sport confirms its role as a key initiative within the European sport landscape, promoting healthy lifestyles and strengthening communities through sport.
