Bulgarian sports specialists at #EmpowerSport training in Budapest for volunteering in sports
26.05.2025
In the period May 22–26, 2025, an international training mobility under the #EmpowerSport project, co-funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ programme, took place in Budapest, Hungary. The event brought together 30 Bulgarian specialists, representing Bulgarian sports development association, along with participants from the Visegrаd Group countries, a football team from India, and representatives from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America.
The training program began with a visit to the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS), where participants were welcomed by the university’s leadership and international department. They were introduced to the Hungarian sports system and the model for physical education and sports, took a campus tour, and exchanged experiences on topics related to training sports professionals and the role of universities in the development of volunteering in sports. The practical part included a session using the "Education through Sport" method with a youth football team from India, followed by a demonstration match with a Hungarian team. Training sessions were also held on topics such as volunteering in sports, teamwork, safety, event organization, and inclusive sport, led by Rodrigo Dudas, board member of the hosting organization – Budapest Association for International Sports (BAIS).

On May 24, participants took part in the V4 Sports Unity Festival – a major sports event with over 300 participants, where they applied what they had learned in a real-world setting through on-site volunteering, assisting in the organization of activities and events with international participation. The Bulgarian sports specialists played a key role in volunteer activities related to organizing tournaments in disciplines such as football, beach volleyball, padel, table tennis, badminton, chess, and dance. Participants had the opportunity to apply what they had learned in a real context and actively support the festival. The final day was dedicated to learning about Budapest's municipal sports policy, analyzing lessons learned and application post-training, motivating and retaining volunteers, as well as evaluating the outcomes achieved.

The training in Budapest contributed to the development of knowledge and skills related to European identity, social engagement, and active participation in volunteering initiatives, providing a platform for the exchange of best practices and intercultural cooperation in the field of sports.

The EmpowerSport project is coordinated by Bulgarian sport development association and will continue actively until 2027, providing valuable opportunities for experience exchange and professional development for sports specialists from Bulgaria throughout Europe. #EmpowerSport is co-funded by Erasmus+ Programme in the framework of Adult accreditation 2020-1-BG01-KA120-ADU-094689 with project number 2023-1-BG01-KA121-ADU-000112471.
