Bulgarian experts took part in #EmpowerSport training in Turkey

From 25 to 29 August 2026, 29 Bulgarian sports professionals, youth workers, and physical education and sports teachers took part in #EmpowerSport training in Sakarya, Turkey. The training focused on strengthening their professional competences in the field of adapted sports. The training was co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme and coordinated by the Bulgarian sports development association.
The agenda combined theoretical sessions, practical activities, and an exchange of experience, introducing different approaches to adapting sports activities to the abilities and needs of people with disabilities. Participants took part in practical modules covering swimming, football, volleyball, bocce, mini golf, table tennis, flag football, and multisport activities. Part of the training also focused on the experience of the host organisation, Kargenc Club, in using sport as a tool for social inclusion and creating more opportunities for the active participation of people with disabilities.
An important part of the training was the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained not in a simulated setting, but in a real sports environment. As part of the practical training, the Bulgarian professionals took part in the delivery of the international inclusive sports camp #InSport – Inclusive Sports for All: Enhancing Social Integration and Coach Capacity through Adaptive Sports in Sakarya.
The camp brought together 100 young people with and without intellectual disabilities from Bulgaria and Turkey. Participants in #EmpowerSport had the opportunity to work directly with them and put their newly acquired knowledge into practice by organising and delivering adapted sports activities. In this way, the training naturally progressed from gaining and exchanging knowledge to putting it into practice – one of the most important foundations for developing real-world professional skills. Teachers and students from the Adapted Physical Activity and Sport programme at the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski” also took part in the practical activities, supporting the work with participants and contributing to the exchange of professional experience.
