International Training under the HER SPORT Project
31.05.2025
From May 28–31, 2025, an international training under the HER SPORT project took place in the city of Volos, Greece, bringing together coaches, sports educators, and experts from Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, and Spain. The main focus of the training was the increasing the capacity of sports professionals to promote inclusion and accessibility in sports for girls aged 13 to 17.
The HER SPORT project, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, is aimed at improving equal access to sports, especially for girls from rural and remote areas. The training component is central to the initiative, focusing on developing key knowledge and skills among 32 sports coaches and club managers. The topics include inclusive practices, gender equality, prevention of discrimination, and overcoming social and cultural barriers to sports participation.

During the training in Greece, participants went through intensive sessions, practical workshops, and thematic discussions focused on creating and applying effective educational approaches in their everyday work with adolescent girls. In addition to sharing best practices among partner countries, a key part of the program was the joint planning of upcoming activities in Bulgaria, Greece, and Spain, as well as the final event in Serbia.

An important outcome of the training was the preparation of handbooks and resources for coaches and families, designed to serve as practical tools for building sustainable and inclusive sports environments. The participants agreed on the idea that sport can be a powerful driver of social change when applied through thoughtful and educational approaches.

HER SPORT continues with the goal of reaching at least 200 girls at risk of being excluded from sports activities, by providing support, inspiration, and a suitable environment for their active participation and development through sport.
