INSPORT kick off meeting in Kardzhali
05.04.2026
From March 2–5, 2026, Kardzhali hosted the kick-off meeting of the INSPORT – Inclusive Sports for All project, bringing together representatives of partner organizations from Bulgaria and Turkey united around the common mission of promoting inclusion through sport for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The meeting was organized within the framework of the INSPORT project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, and marked the official launch of a new international partnership focused on creating more accessible, supportive, and inclusive sport environments for children of all abilities.
During the meeting, partners discussed the project implementation plan, upcoming research activities, the structure of the INSPORT+ training programme for coaches and educators, and the development of inclusive sport methodologies and educational resources. Special attention was given to the practical challenges children with intellectual and developmental disabilities still face when accessing structured sport activities, as well as to the important role of local communities, schools, sport clubs, and families in building inclusive opportunities together.

The project consortium includes Bulgarian Sports Development Association and Serdivan Youth and Sports District Directorate Sports Club, who will work together over the coming months to develop innovative tools, practical training activities, educational materials, and international inclusive sport events in Bulgaria and Turkey.

The INSPORT project aims to improve equal access to sport for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities through adapted physical activity, inclusive coaching methods, and unified sport activities involving children with and without disabilities. Through local sport sessions, educational programmes, international events, and awareness campaigns, the initiative will demonstrate how sport can become a powerful tool for participation, confidence, communication, and social inclusion.

Among the planned project activities are comparative research on inclusion in sport, the development of the INSPORT+ Training Programme and Handbook for inclusive coaching, local sport sessions involving more than 200 children, two international INSPORT+ Days in Bulgaria and Turkey, educational videos, and a Policy Brief with recommendations for inclusive sport development.

The kick-off meeting in Kardzhali laid the foundations for strong international cooperation and long-term commitment to building communities where every child has the opportunity to play, move, learn, and grow through sport without barriers.
