Children’s sports celebration #Train4Family in Kyustendil

30.05.2025
On May 30, 2025, the center of Kyustendil was filled with a festive atmosphere on the occasion of the fourth edition of the Festival of Orthodox Spirit and Traditions – an event that has become an established tradition in the town’s calendar. Organizers of the celebration were the Sofia Holy Metropolia and the Archdiocese in Kyustendil, with the support of the Municipality of Kyustendil, the Regional Education Directorate, the “Emanuil Popdimitrov” Regional Library, the “New Masters” school, the Youth Center Kyustendil, and Bulgarian sports development association.
The festive day began with a solemn Archieratical Holy Liturgy in the “Dormition of the Theotokos” church, led by Bishop Isaak of Velbazhd with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Daniil. The prayerful chants were performed by the children's church choir “St. Seraphim of Sofia the Miracle Worker”.
Children from primary schools and kindergartens in Kyustendil took part in the festive program. In the workshops, the children made cards on Orthodox themes. The “Emanuil Popdimitrov” Regional Library – Kyustendil, the “New Masters” school, and Sunday schools from Sofia also participated with their own workshops. Around 12:00 PM on “Velbazhd” Square, under the sounds of the national anthem of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian flag was raised, followed by a festive procession led by the attending clergy, institutional representatives, children, citizens, and guests. The professional brass band of the Municipality of Kyustendil also took part in the celebration. The host of the event was Nadezhda Panayotova, author of the children’s radio show “For the Children with Nadezhda” on “Eparchial Voice” Radio of the Sofia Holy Metropolis.
BSDA participated by organizing inclusive sports games for children, within which the #Train4Family initiative, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, was promoted. The event created opportunities for shared experiences among children, families, and institutions in a spirit of inclusion, activity, and tradition.
Train4Family is an international initiative with partners from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Turkey, Italy, Slovenia, and Spain, aimed at promoting the inclusion of children with disabilities and their families through sports and a healthy lifestyle.
