20.12.2024
The UPSkilling Coaches: A New Methodology to Empower Female Coaches in Minority Sports project was launched with the first transnational project meeting held in the period 19-20 December 2024 in Palermo, Italy, hosted by CEIPES ETS. The meeting brought together partner organisations from Italy, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Hungary to lay the foundations of the project dedicated to empowering female coaches through innovative training tools. On behalf of Bulgarian sports development association, partner from Bulgaria, the meeting was attended by Joanna, Dochevska, Ivelina Kirilova and Martina Dimitrova.
The UPSkilling Coaches project aims to improve the skills, quality of coaching and employment opportunities for female coaches in minority sports. Inspired by the 2022 recommendations of the High-Level Group on Gender Equality in sport, the project goes beyond conventional approaches with a comprehensive development plan for female coaches, encouraging positive transformation in their professional path.
The key deliverables include:
• A comprehensive research report on the challenges and opportunities for female coaches;
• A structured methodology guiding innovative training approaches;
• An e-learning toolbox for continuing education;
• A European network of coaches for knowledge exchange and mutual support;
• A training, workshops and campaigns to promote inclusion and overcome stereotypes.
The first meeting in Palermo included a presentation of the objectives and activities of the project, an overview of best practices and the development of a survey for women coaches. Administrative and financial aspects were discussed, as well as plans for dissemination and sustainability. Participants engaged in interactive activities such as a flag football demonstration, which complemented the theoretical part with a practical experience.
The UPSkilling Coaches project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme and is going to be implemented for the period of 24 months in the four partner countries – Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy and Lithuania. With its innovative approaches and focus on equality, the project aims to be a catalyst for change in sports coaching and create new opportunities for female coaches in Europe.
