09.05.2025
On May 9, 2025, at the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski," Europe Day was marked with a discussion forum on the topic "Gender equality in sports science and practice". The event took place as part of the 28th scientific conference for PhD students and students, titled "Personality, motivation, sport", and brought together lecturers, students, and external experts with an interest in equality and social justice in the sports sector. The conference was organized with the support of the SUPPORTER project / Horizon Europe, in which the NSA is a partner.
During the round table, a study conducted within the UpSkilling Coaching project was presented – an initiative dedicated to empowering women coaches in minority sports. The project, co-funded by the European Union, aims to identify the main challenges women face in the coaching profession and to offer sustainable solutions to overcome the barriers to their professional development.
The analysis covers the attitudes, experiences, and needs of women coaches in four European countries, emphasizing the need for targeted support, access to mentoring programs, and the development of policies that ensure equal access to leadership positions in sport. The UPSKILLING COACHES project will continue with the development of a methodology to build the capacity of women coaches, based on the survey results, with a focus on practical tools for growth, training, and networking support. The data was presented by Joanna Dochevska – Chairperson of Bulgarian sports development association, which is the Bulgarian partner in the project.
