BSDA is partner in Bet on Sport project
13.12.2024
The Bet on Sport project addresses the growing issue of gambling addiction, particularly in sports betting, by leveraging the positive impact of sports and physical activities to support recovery. The initiative aims to promote sports participation as a tool for enhancing the mental and physical well-being of individuals struggling with gambling addiction across seven countries: Romania, Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Finland, Italy, and Turkey.
To achieve its goals, the project will:
• Equip at least 200 professionals in addiction treatment, healthcare, and sports with the skills to design and implement sports programs as an adjunct therapy for gambling addiction;
• Foster collaboration among at least 100 professionals in these fields to address gambling addiction holistically;
• Raise awareness among over 400 professionals, stakeholders, and authorities about the therapeutic benefits of sports in addiction recovery;
• Enhance access to innovative physical activity programs for at least 100 individuals dealing with gambling addiction.

Key Actions and Objectives:
The Bet on Sport project will begin by analyzing the specific needs of gambling addicts and identifying the types of sports activities most effective in aiding their recovery. Concurrently, it will assess the knowledge requirements of health and sports professionals to create an integrated Cooperation Protocol.

An online training course will then be developed to educate professionals in addiction, healthcare, and sports sectors, enabling them to collaborate effectively. The trained professionals will pilot and evaluate the Cooperation Protocol in all seven participating countries, ensuring its applicability and success.

Raising Awareness and Disseminating Results
To amplify its impact, the project will launch awareness campaigns targeting addiction and sports professionals, stakeholders, and policymakers. These activities will include printed and digital materials, social media actions, and dedicated events, aiming to reach over 10,000 people and showcase the benefits of integrating sports into addiction therapy.

By fostering collaboration and innovation, the Bet on Sport project aspires to become a transformative force in addressing gambling addiction, offering sustainable solutions through the power of sport.
