Bet On Sport partner meeting in Barcelona
14.01.2026
In the period 13–14 January 2026, a partner meeting under the European project Bet On Sport was held in Barcelona, Spain, hosted by the sport2live organization. The meeting brought together representatives of the international partner consortium to coordinate activities, review progress, and plan the next stages of the project’s implementation.
During the first day, partners discussed project management and quality assurance, including the presentation of the Midterm quality assurance and evaluation report, as well as progress in the development of the online training course and platform. A particular highlight was a practical training session in which participants had the opportunity to observe and take part in the use of physical exercises as a supportive tool in addiction recovery processes and mental health–related interventions.
The second day focused on the pilot implementation of the online course in the partner countries, the methodology for evaluating the pilot programmes, and the planning of dissemination and awareness-raising activities. The partners clarified the target groups, the overall structure of the national activities, and their respective roles for the coming months.
The Bet On Sport project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, addresses the growing problem of gambling addiction in Europe. By harnessing the positive impact of physical activity, the initiative aims to support the recovery of individuals struggling with addiction by encouraging their participation in sports activities. The partner meeting in Barcelona strengthened coordination among the participating organizations and outlined clear next steps for the successful continuation of the project. The initiative is being implemented in seven countries – Bulgaria, Romania, Spain, Greece, Finland, Italy, and Turkey – and is going to train more than 200 professionals from the fields of sport, psychology, and addiction treatment.
The project’s key activities include:
• Development of an online training programme for effective work with people experiencing gambling-related problems;
• Implementation of pilot sports programmes in the participating countries;
• National awareness-raising campaigns on the risks associated with gambling.
The project runs for a total of 28 months with the support of the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. The expected outcomes include the creation of sustainable methodologies and the promotion of cross-sector cooperation in addressing gambling addiction.
