31.05.2026
In May 2026, in Sofia, Bulgarian sports development association (BSDA) organized a series of awareness-raising events under the international SAFE SPORT – Cybersecurity for Women Athletes project. More than 120 participants took part in the initiatives, including students, sports professionals, coaches, and sports educators, united around the topic of digital safety and the protection of women in sport.
The SAFE SPORT project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Sport programme and aims to promote digital safety and increase cybersecurity awareness among women athletes. The initiative is coordinated by the National Network of Sport Leaders Association from North Macedonia, in partnership with Beautiful Minds Academy from Serbia, Unicis.Tech OU from Estonia, and Bulgarian sports development association from Bulgaria.

During the events in Sofia, participants learned about the main risks in the digital environment, including cyberbullying, online abuse, identity theft, and digital exploitation. Good practices for online safety were presented, along with opportunities for integrating cybersecurity topics into the sport and educational process.

The SAFE SPORT project was created in response to the growing digital challenges faced by women athletes across Europe. Through the development of a specialized Cybersecurity Toolkit, the project aims to provide practical guidance and resources for athletes, coaches, and sports organizations to support the prevention of and response to online threats.

The initiative is aligned with the European Union’s policies on gender equality, digital transformation, and safe sporting environments, contributing to the promotion of sustainable and secure digital practices in sport.

Through the implementation of these events, Bulgarian sports development association continues its mission to promote innovation, safety, and equal access in sport, while supporting the creation of a safer and more supportive environment for young women athletes.
