BSDA HELD A TRAINING OF SPORTS SPECIALISTS UNDER THE FIT FOR KIDS EUROPE PROJECT

09.04.2023
On April 9, 2023, in the town of Strelcha, Bulgaria, a training for sports specialists was held under the Fit For Kids Europe project. Sports coaches from the volleyball club Ahil, Sofia, took part in the training. During the event, organized by Bulgarian sports development association, the sports specialists had the opportunity to discuss and exchange good practices regarding successful motivation and the implementation of successful models for physical activity and sports for children and their parents. One of the most serious challenges faced by the children who want to be more active is the lack of accessible sports facilities and infrastructure.
Many of the children live in small towns or villages where there are not enough sports facilities or they are in terrible condition. This makes it difficult for them to engage in sports and develop their skills. The lack of funding and support for sports clubs and appropriate competitions is also a serious obstacle to greater participation of children in regular sports activities. Many of the clubs don’t have enough funding to be able to buy the necessary sports equipment and pay for participation in competitions. This can cause lack of motivation in children and lead them to refuse to continue playing sports, which gives rise to a further lack of interest in them or their parents. Bad or false information is also recognized by the sports professionals as a huge challenge in children's grassroots sports. Many children are not aware of the benefits of practicing regular physical activity and sports, which makes it difficult to motivate them to participate in sports activities. We shouldn’t miss the fact that despite these obstacles, sports for children in Bulgaria continues to be an important part of their development and is one of the main reasons why our children are healthier, more focused and disciplined.
Fit For Kids Europe is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Sport programme. Project life time is consisting of 3 and a half years between 01.01.2020 – 30.06.2023. The main goal of the project ”Fit for Kids Europe” is to establish a network of EU sport associations and other related NGO’s who wish to collaborate on increasing the participation of inactive, overweight and obese children in after-school organized physical activities.
With this Collaboration we intend to reach this main goal by combining three actions:
1) Expand the FitforKids programme;
2) Present FitforKids as a best-in-class case study and true driver for volunteer based social/health programmes;
3) Recognition of the ethnic Turks living in EU Member States.
Through the Erasmus+ co-funded initiative, the Program will be applied as well in Bulgaria, Italy, Portugal and Turkey. The FitforKids’ Program is a community based multi-component lifestyle intervention implemented in Denmark aimed at increasing the overall health of the family as well as reducing BMI and body fat with the children.
The FitforKids program consists of five elements: Nutritional advice, Physical training for both children and parents, Parent Coaching, a Motivational program and Social Events. FitforKids is completely free for the families and it supported by many private and public institutions, including the Danish government.
