#BeActiveTogether Kick-Off Meeting in Sofia
24.03.2025
The #BeActiveTogether project officially launched with a kick-off meeting in Sofia, held in the period March 22-25, 2025, bringing together representatives from Bulgarian Sports Development Association (BSDA) and AETOI Thessalonikis to initiate efforts toward inclusive sports opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, #BeActiveTogether addresses the social exclusion and discrimination faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities. The project seeks to create meaningful sports mobility experiences, integrating participants into national and international sporting events, fostering socialization, empowerment, and skill-building through athletics training.
The kick-off meeting, held at the BSDA office in Sofia, provided a platform for partners to outline the project roadmap, discuss management and dissemination strategies, and initiate the development of a comprehensive educational resource to support coaches, trainers, and social workers in promoting inclusive sports practices. During the discussions, the project’s core components were introduced, including financial and administrative management, dissemination approaches, and plans for both local and international training activities.

A significant focus was placed on the creation of guidelines and training materials to enhance accessibility and inclusion in sports. As part of the agenda, the partners conducted a practical visit to the Water Training Base "Nessebar" – NSA, a potential venue for the international #BeActiveTogether sports camps in Bulgaria. The visit allowed for an assessment of the facility’s accessibility and suitability for hosting adaptive sports activities. The meeting concluded with strategic planning sessions, where the next steps were defined for national and international engagements, ensuring the effective implementation of sports mobility opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The #BeActiveTogether project aims to:
✔ Engage 150+ individuals with intellectual disabilities in sports activities throughout the project’s duration.
✔ Develop and disseminate the #BeActiveTogether Handbook, equipping sports and social professionals with inclusive coaching methodologies.
✔ Increase awareness and advocacy for the inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities in sports.

With the active collaboration between BSDA and AETOI Thessalonikis, the #BeActiveTogether initiative is set to create lasting change, fostering an environment where sports serve as a powerful tool for social inclusion and personal development.
