BSDA took part in a Sport Infoday in Brussels
16.12.2024
On the 16th of December 2024, the annual edition of the Sport Info Days took place at the European Commission building in Brussels, providing detailed information on the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ sport strand to promote sport and physical activity at local, regional and national level. The event brought together 500 sports experts and was opened by Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport: "Sport is a pillar of inclusion in our societies and democracies, driving positive change for the better.
The European Commission is committed to make a tangible difference to our lives through sport, recognising its profound social and financial impact. As a fundamental public good, sport promotes health, prosperity, social cohesion and the validation of European values."
The Sport Infoday was organised by the European Commission and the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and aimed to inform participants about the political context, the future programme and funding opportunities in 2025. The budget for sport planned by the European Union is more than €70 million and is expected to support initiatives across Europe this year that will contribute to raising physical activity levels and increasing the capacity of sports organisations. Participants also had the opportunity to make new contacts and network with potential partners. The event took place in Brussels and was attended by Joanna Dochevska and Ivaylo Zdravkov, representatives of the Bulgarian sports development association, which currently coordinates 4 initiatives within the Erasmus+ programme:
• #BeInclusiveWaterPolo is an initiative that aims to develop new sports activities in the field of inclusive sports for people with intellectual disabilities in Bulgaria and Croatia. In order to follow new trends in adapted sports and introduce new forms of adapted physical activity to the local community, the #BeInclusiveWaterPolo project will also contribute significantly to increasing opportunities for inclusion through sport for people with intellectual disabilities and empowering water polo clubs in Bulgaria and Croatia, which will be able to offer a new, practically tested option for people with special needs and thus strengthen their capacity in the field of adapted sports.
• #SMS – Strong Mind for Success project is an initiative that aims to build the capacity of modern sports organisations in the area of mental health awareness and care for young athletes. The #SMS – Strong Mind for Success project will provide innovative training on how mental health can contribute to the successful development of young footballers in Bulgaria, Italy and Slovenia.
• SPORT Project (Strengthening Potentials through Opportunities, Respect, and Team-spirit) aims to promote inclusion and accessibility in sport, with a special focus on people with intellectual disabilities in Bulgaria and Turkey.
• #BeActiveTogether project is an initiative that aims to provide quality sport mobility for people with intellectual disabilities through athletics training, while providing new tools and resources that use sport as a means of inclusion, socialization and empowerment, to sport experts, including instructors, coaches and social workers. #BeActiveTogether is implemented in Bulgaria and Greece over a 24-month period.
