#BeInclusiveWaterPolo sea training
17.06.2025
As part of the 19th edition of the Summer Camp for Adapted Water Sports organized by the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski,” a special #BeInclusiveWaterPolo training session took place in a natural sea environment. The session included some of the athletes who make up the Bulgarian adapted water polo team and who have been training regularly in Sofia over the past two years. Their participation in the camp was not only inspiring but also key to showcasing best practices in adapted sports.
The training was focused on developing basic water polo skills in an inclusive setting, with an emphasis on teamwork, coordination, and the joy of movement in the water. For many of the participants, this was their first experience with the sport, and thanks to the support and example set by their more experienced teammates, everyone was able to join in with enthusiasm and a smile.

l#BeInclusiveWaterPolo is an initiative that introduces an innovative and accessible approach to water polo for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Following the successful international event held in Rijeka, Croatia (April 22–26, 2025), co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, the concept continues to develop through practical activities such as this one within the summer camp. The #BeInclusiveWaterPolo initiative introduces an innovative and engaging model for adapted sports, allowing individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate fully in team sports alongside peers with similar abilities. This approach creates a positive, supportive, and balanced play environment where prejudices are overcome and genuine social integration is promoted through movement and sports collaboration. The project is being carried out in partnership between the Rijeka Sport Association for Persons with Disabilities, Bulgarian sports development association, and Association of Bulgarian Swimmers, with the support of the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme.

The Summer Camp for Adapted Water Sports, organized by students and teachers from the "Adapted Physical Activity and Sports" program at the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski,” continues to be a well-established platform for sharing experience, developing skills, and building an inclusive sports community. The inclusive water polo training session confirmed the sport’s potential as a tool for integration, emotional growth, and social connection among people with diverse abilities.
