Bulgarian experts at #EmpowerSport training in Turkey
28.08.2025
In the period 24–28 August 2025, Sakarya, Turkey hosted an innovative training as part of the #EmpowerSport programme, targeting sports experts, youth workers, and physical education teachers from Bulgaria. The initiative, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, aimed to strengthen professional competences and exchange knowledge in the field of adapted sports.
The training combined theoretical and practical modules covering swimming, football, volleyball, boccia, mini golf, table tennis and multi-sport activities for people with disabilities. Twenty-four Bulgarian sports experts participated, gaining insights into best practices and discussing the challenges and opportunities for the development of adapted sports.

The programme also presented the work of the host organization Kargenc Club, which promotes social inclusion of people with disabilities through sport and highlighted opportunities for their engagement as volunteers in sporting events. As part of the practical component of the training, the participants actively supported the #SPORT – Strengthening Potentials through Opportunities, Respect, and Team-spirit camp, held in Sakarya from 25–28 August 2025. The camp gathered 30 athletes with intellectual disabilities - 15 from Turkey and 15 from Bulgaria - for four days of inclusive sport activities, teambuilding, and intercultural exchange. This hands-on experience provided the Bulgarian experts with a unique opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills in a real-life setting, directly contributing to an inclusive sporting environment.

#EmpowerSport continues to contribute to the development of sports professionals by offering training and mobility opportunities across Europe until 2027. The programme is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme under accreditation for adult education 2020-1-BG01-KA120-ADU-094689, project number 2024-1-BG01-KA121-ADU-000196813.
