Inclusive Orienteering For All – IOFA Event in Ravda
20.06.2025
On June 20, 2025, at the water sports base of the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" in the town of Ravda, Bulgarian sports development association organized an exciting inclusive sports event in orienteering under the Inclusive Orienteering For All – IOFA project, which is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
The event was held in the Trail-O format – a discipline in orienteering that emphasizes not on physical activity, but on strategic thinking, observation, and map reading. Participants included individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities aged between 18 and 65, who completed an adapted route consisting of 8 control points, with great enthusiasm and supported by students and lecturers from the Adapted physical activity and sports department of the NSA "Vasil Levski."

The main goals of the activity were:
• To introduce the basics of orienteering and Trail-O in an accessible and inclusive environment;
• To stimulate logical thinking, spatial orientation, and decision-making;
• To build confidence and a sense of achievement in the participants through sport;
• To raise awareness of the importance of accessible sports activities for people with disabilities.

The activity demonstrated that sport can be equally accessible for everyone through adapted methods, clear instructions, teamwork, and a supportive environment. Participants shared that Trail-O gave them the opportunity to feel equal and active, while having fun, learning, and developing new skills.

The event confirmed the success of the IOFA project as a platform for social inclusion through sport and inspired both participants and organizers to continue the mission for more accessible and inclusive sport for all.
