InSport
BSDA is partner in INSPORT – Inclusive Sports for All
11.11.2025
The INSPORT project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, promotes the social inclusion of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through sport. The initiative builds on the belief that sport is not only a physical activity but also a vital tool for social connection, self-expression, and equality. Despite the progress made in inclusive education and community integration, children with IDD still face multiple barriers to participation in structured sport programmes.
INSPORT addresses this gap by creating accessible sport environments, enhancing the competences of sport professionals, and fostering cooperation between local communities, schools, and sport organizations.
The overarching goal of INSPORT is to make sports accessible and enjoyable for all children – regardless of their abilities – by developing innovative practices and pedagogical tools that enhance the inclusiveness of sport settings.
The specific objectives include:
• Promoting equal access to sport for children with IDD through adapted sport activities;
• Enhancing the capacity of coaches, teachers, and volunteers to deliver inclusive sport programmes using innovative and practical training;
• Encouraging cooperation between sport and education sectors, bridging schools, clubs, and families;
• Raising public awareness of the importance of inclusion through sport and community events;
• Contributing to the European Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2021-2030) and the EU Work Plan for Sport (2021-2027) by aligning local action with European inclusion priorities.
INSPORT will implement a set of interrelated activities in Bulgaria and Turkey, ensuring both local and transnational impact.
• Research and Needs Assessment – The project starts with a comparative study to identify barriers and opportunities for inclusion in sport. The findings will serve as the basis for designing the training content and pilot activities.
• INSPORT+ Training Programme for Coaches – A specialized training course will be developed and delivered to at least 40 coaches, teachers, and volunteers. The curriculum will cover topics such as adapted physical activity, communication with children with IDD, inclusive methodologies, safety, and the use of sport as a tool for social and emotional development. The programme will include both theoretical sessions and practical workshops.
• Local Inclusive Sport Sessions – Each partner country will organize a cycle of sport sessions involving over 200 children with and without intellectual disabilities. These sessions will focus on teamwork, movement skills, and self-confidence, showing that inclusive sport benefits everyone.
• INSPORT+ Days – Two major international events – one in Sofia (Bulgaria) and one in Sakarya (Turkey) – will celebrate inclusion through sport. Children from both countries will participate in unified games, exhibitions, and interactive activities designed to highlight the joy and value of diversity.
• Development of Educational and Communication Materials – The project will produce a set of 10 educational videos, accessible guidelines, and visual materials to help schools and sport clubs adopt inclusive practices. These resources will be freely available online.
• Policy Brief and Final Conference – Drawing on project results, partners will prepare a Policy Brief on Inclusive Sport, offering practical recommendations for public authorities and sport organizations. The final conference will share the project’s achievements, fostering dialogue among policymakers, coaches, and disability organizations.
Expected Outputs:
• Comparative Research Report on inclusion in sport for children with IDD;
• INSPORT+ Training Programme and Handbook for inclusive coaching;
• Implementation of inclusive sport activities reaching 200 children;
• Two INSPORT+ Days promoting inclusion and visibility;
• Ten educational videos and dissemination materials;
• Policy Brief with strategic recommendations for inclusive sport development.
INSPORT’s impact extends beyond the project’s duration. Coaches and educators will gain the knowledge and confidence to integrate inclusive approaches into their daily work. Children with disabilities will experience greater access to sport, improved physical and emotional well-being, and a sense of belonging. Families and local communities will witness the benefits of inclusion in action, challenging stereotypes and building empathy. At institutional level, INSPORT will enhance the capacity of participating organizations – Serdivan Youth and Sports District Directorate Sports Club (Turkey) and the Bulgarian Sports Development Association (BSDA) – to act as multipliers of inclusive sport practices, promoting sustainability through long-term cooperation and continued training initiatives. Ultimately, INSPORT aspires to create a European model of inclusion through sport – one where every child can play, learn, and grow beyond limitations.
